We need a system - any system...
at 10:22 30 Apr 2019

I like the analysis of the first Liverpool goal the other night.

Anyway, it's lucky he didn't mention our system of punting it to the opposition from kick offs.

Ishmael Miller
at 17:01 1 Feb 2019

Remember him when we had him on loan. Nice gesture from him not taking his wages until he gets fit.

An interesting story coming out of Tranmere: Rovers manager Micky Mellon has revealed that his striker Ishmael Miller has asked for his wages to be frozen until he returns to fitness following surgery on a hamstring injury. Miller, formerly of West Brom, Nottingham Forest, Blackpool and Huddersfield joined the League Two side last month, scored on his debut but was forced off injured in his second game.

“At this moment, Ishmael’s not getting paid by Tranmere,” Mellon said in an interview with BBC Radio Merseyside. “He came in to see me about a week ago and we had the conversation where he said to me ‘Stop my wages until I get fit again’.

“He wants Tranmere Rovers to keep moving forward while he’s out injured, which is possibly the first time I’ve heard that. I need everybody to understand how big a gesture that is from Ishmael at this moment in time.

“If he’d kept getting paid and waited until he got fit, nobody would’ve blinked an eyelid as that’s what’s supposed to happen. People might say ‘Well, he’s in a position where he can do that’. Well, he doesn’t have to do that. He knows how tight things are at this club and where we’re at in terms of what we’re trying to do.

“I think it says an awful lot about him as a man. Often footballers get bad publicity, but he thought about us and Tranmere first.” Much like Juan Mata’s Common Goal chairty, I can’t see this wheeze catching on in training grounds around the country.

Just saw Gerry on Sky. You have to give him full credit for dedication to that hairstyle. He's stuck with it through thick and thin.

I suppose Stevie G is in the same boat. Always been a short back and sides man.

Harry on a Princess Cruise 2018 - book early
at 16:30 3 Dec 2017

Took the missus and kids on a cruise last summer and had a great time. We were just thinking about going again next summer when an email came through from them with details of their new "star-studded" line for entertainment in 2018. Topping the bill for the Med cruise is old dodgy knees himself Harry!!!

As I've heard his Di Canio story about 10 times and his one about "Merse" it's time to check what P&O have to offer now.

Are you still around?

Do you still go to games?

And most importantly, how are your feet doing now?

He suffered a couple of painful screen deaths too.

That scene in Goodfellas is great - well the whole bloody film is.

Sign of a decent team?
at 10:47 13 Sep 2017

I always think getting a point when you're not at your best is a sign of a good team.

During some of our recent seasons we've drawn when we should have won and got hammered when we play badly.

At two down last night I thought that if we could somehow get a point then we'd kick on. Kind of like Derby a few years ago.

I think the team is getting more and more confident and when you get a point late on it's a bloody good omen.

The other thing is that we finally have a team of players that care and we have no prima donas. Even the most harsh critic would have to say it's looking good.

Driving - world athletics

I was hoping someone might have some advice on the best place to park a car for the Olympics stadium on Monday. We're coming from the south coast with 2 young kids so if possible we'd like to park the car and then take public transport to the stadium. I thought of maybe parking in greenwich but not sure if that's possible. Any recommendations would be much appreciated. Cheers.

“We just need to shrug this one off quickly and start focusing on next season because this will be a really important transfer window for us and it is vital we bring the right people in.”

I thought about a month ago we had the right people. All pulling in the right direction etc. Playing for the club. I guess he means the right people are not the right players so he wants the right people that are also the right players. Right?

I think we probably need a couple but there are some decent players at the club. As has been said, probably best to learn to walk first and get a settled pattern of play before we start trying out new formations each week.

It looks like Pawel was rested because of a death in the family.

I think that's the first time, I've read an Olly quote that hasn't put a 'Y' on the end of someone's name. Hally is in there, but Wozzy is not Wzozy apparently. Wazza?

What film or TV programme was the first to grant you access to the joys of the free flowing Bristols?

For me I think the first scene in clash of the titans was interesting. 10 with Bo Derik and then of course the confessions of a.. Films.

Forgot Koo Stark!

Freeman and Manning
at 12:02 10 Apr 2017

Watching these two seeming to get better each week, got me thinking about how much attention they'll get from other clubs in the summer. We obviously need both to be mainstays in the midfield next season, and I'd be gutted if one or the other was poached.

I think we're safe with Freeman as he's been in the league for a while and his best performances have come towards the end of the season.

Manning on the other hand looks like a real find. I remember Dave Mc saying how a few other clubs were looking at him before he even got in our match squad. He's tenacious and skilful and you'd think that this has been picked up on my other managers in the league or even ones on the way down from the Prem.

I know we have to be realistic and make a profit on a player, but I hope Manning is on a nice contract that keeps him with us next season at least.

Apparently won't play for the Hammers as he wants a move. I'd love it if they stick to their guns and don't sell him.

In desperate need of a point
at 14:33 27 Dec 2016

We have to somehow get a point from anywhere anyhow. Confidence must be at rock bottom.

Not sure how many games Olly has got left. I reckon 8 losses on the trot would be about the end of it.
