Sunday is NOT "a good day out"
at 16:27 23 May 2024

This is very true. So many clubs have struggled to stay in the championship within a few seasons of getting relegated from the Prem (Like us in 2007/8 and 2008/9. The fact of the matter is that the parachute money drops again, so this summer that money would have to be recouped, Undoubtedly we would lose a number of our better players and in all likelihood 'IF' they were replaced, they would be replaced by players of a lesser quality. We are better off being a yo yo club than a club that suffers a slow decline and drops into league One again.

Are we now at a tipping point with Ralph as Manager?
at 22:34 14 Dec 2019

At this moment in time I am not 100% convinced with Ralph but changing the manager would be akin to putting lipstick on a pig! Ings aside, the players are not good enough end of.

Totally agree. He has to go. So does our tight fisted owner.

My take on yesterday
at 17:02 11 Aug 2019

Some good points made. Let's face up to it! WE WERE BEATEN BY ONE OF THE RELEGATION FAVOURITES 3-0!.......Yes it is the 1st game of the season and YES we 'could' improve BUT we have the same awful defenders as last season.....So, in all likelyhood it is going to be more of the same!!! Everybody seems to be pinning their hopes on Danso, the poor guy is just 20 years old, we can't expect him to be our defensive saviour, that's just not fair. We should have signed an experienced centre half to go alongside Danso! You reap what you sew in life and we are trying to do it on the cheap. If we do end up going down this season it will be because of our dreadful defence, and it will be down to the owners.....they can hardly say that they hadn't been warned!

Listening to Ralf
at 21:06 25 Feb 2019

I agree with the original post. I think Ralph didn't realise how poor the squad really was. He now realises that he has one hell of a task on his hands and he regrets taking the job on. I dare say somebody lied through their teeth to him, telling him funds would be made available in January and they were not.

Saints At Arsenal The Verdict
at 20:53 25 Feb 2019

Regardless of how good/bad/Average yesterdays performance was, Ask yourselves,. Are we a better side than we were at the end of last season? Do we have a better squad? I think the answer is No to BOTH and we stayed up by the skin of our teeth last season. I get fed up with people in the media AND some of our fans saying this squad is too good to be down there. This side has been down there consistently for at least 18 months and the warnings were there before Puel left that we were going backwards. A combination of poor recruitment and poor managerial appointments has played a huge part in our demise BUT I think a vast majority of our supporters have little faith in the ambitions of our board and owner. Lets get this straight, the 'Southampton way' is/was to buy players sell em on for huge profits and re-invest that money into the squad. I haven't sat down and worked out the fees in and out over the last few years, but i reckon we have not spent everything we have brought in over the last few seasons. Also we have no more salable assets now so now what? Judging by the lack of incoming transfers in January It looks as if Gao is quite prepared to see go down rather than put his hand in his pocket to help us out. Surely he needs us to stay in the Premier League and protect his investment? BTW the other post of the forum about Hassenhuttl's demeanor is Spot on. I reckon he regrets taking this job, he didn't quite realise the size of the task he was taking on. He is a good manager but it is hugely difficult to make a silk purse from a sows ear!

It's going to upset Nick but sorry our FAILURE to bring in new faces in January IS already biting us in the arse!!! AND the board ARE TO BLAME!!! We all knew we needed at least one centre half and a striker and yet we are having to persevere with the likes of Jack Stephens at the back and Stephens is a million miles away from being good enough!!!

I have been a big Ralph fan but he got our starting line up wrong today.

January transfer window
at 06:38 11 Feb 2019

I am guessing Hasenhuttle thought the squad was bloated with mediocrity, so he wanted to ship some out on the understanding that he'd be allowed to bring a couple in to improve things. The club failed him. Sheer lunacy not allowing him to strengthen. We will pay the price for it i fear.

I agree with many of the comments above. The failure of the clubs owners and board to back Ralph in January is total f--k-n madness. Ralph is a quality manager but Kruger and Gao have effectively tied his hands behind his back. I think it is plainly obvious to many of us that the likes of Jack Stephens are nowhere near good enough, we needed signings and Ralph and the fans have been let down massively. I am f--k-n FUMING this evening!

This win was so unexpected too, that is what makes it feel even more special. Whatever way you look at it this is an incredible turn around in just one week.

As high as i feel after this win I am trying to keep my feet on the ground as we face many challenges, however, this manager is going to be a bloody good appointment, everybody feels this way. To see players like Vestergaard improve so much after one week with Hassenhuttle shows this. It also shows the inadequacies of previous management. I am sure we will get a few hiccups but I see us now heading in an upward direction. When Hassenhuttl starts signing his own players then i reckon we will really push on.

Hughes very near to be shown the door!!
at 16:58 26 Nov 2018

To be honest guys I don't see any candidates jumping out at me as a realistic replacement for Hughes. Somebody has already pointed out that there is nobody within the club qualified to make a call on it. Would you really want Kruger making the call? ....i bloody well don't! Would they entrust Ross Wilson to make the call......I doubt it. I think they will soon employ Reads successor and then we will see some movement soon after that. What also worries me is who is choosing Reads successor??? There are many questions jumping out at me and not many answers.

Apart from the managerial situation I am concerned by the Chairman comments a few weeks ago. He tried to disguise what he was saying by talking a load of old jargon like he always does but when you dissect what he said he is very much implying that Mr Gao will not be spending any of his money and even more worryingly he said that he thought we had the quality already within the squad!........I think we are up against it guys!

I think a major problem for SFC is that when Katrina Liebherr was looking to sell her controlling stake, she told Gao that the club brings players through the academy and sells them on at massive profits and they only buy young players cheap and selling them on for major profits too and that is the money they will use to buy players. I think Gao came in under the impression that he would not need to put his hand in his pockets at any point because the clubs model works well......which it probably did at the time of the negotiations, but as we all know that model has gone tits up in a big way. The recruitment has been very poor over the last few windows and the academy has stopped producing young talent and the guy who was overseeing the football side of the club has had to go as a consequence.

So whatever way you look at this Southampton FC is at a big friggin crossroads and probably doesn't know what way to turn. Do they continue with the failed model or do they change direction? Until the club knows what it is going to do in terms of its future direction then changing a manager is a deckchairs on the Titanic scenario. Whoever comes in will have the same players and an owner who is not going to dip into his personal wealth to stand the club up. Word will be out there in the football world that this is what the situation is so this will narrow down who will want the job anyhow.

Saints lose again
at 19:12 7 Oct 2018

Yes, It is all so predictable, it wasn't so long ago we looked forward to try and bloody the big boys noses, but not anymore, we have been weakened to the point where we know damn sure we are going to get beaten in these games. Most of us can see what is going to happen to our club. The board and owners are pursuing policies that WILL see us heading for the Championship or lower UNLESS there is a major rethink. If we somehow get away with it this season then we will be nailed on certainties to go down next year, it IS going to happen, it is just a question of whether it's this season or next. Changing manager again will literally be like 're-arranging the deckchairs on the Titanic, as the old saying goes. THE PEOPLE RUNNING THIS CLUB AND THE OWNERS NEED TO HAVE A GOOD LOOK AT THEMSELVES because they have the power to stop the rot We have to ABANDON OUR CURRENT THINKING. Our squad is NOT very good, years of selling our best players HAS come back to bite us in the arse and you are a f------G FOOL if you won't admit that. The current policy of selling to generate the funds to buy means we are going down. There are not many of our players that top clubs will be coming after now is there? Other similar sized clubs find money to buy players without having to sell their best players all the time. Where does all the TV money go then? You ain't telling me it all goes on wages! We know Ings is decent but our recruitment in recent windows has been PISS POOR which has compounded the problem. I am sure there will be some people coming on here saying oh you are going OTT and so on but I know I am not alone in my thinking.

I do like the slower version. The problem used to be that we sang it too fast a few years back. However there is a medium paced version which is better than the slower version and miles better than the 100 mph version. If ever you watch a video of the 76 cup final you can hear the crowd sing it perfectly then.
