Great post. Fully agree too. It could actually course more controversy for all the reasons pointed out. Football just ain't like other games where you can have the luxury to make these retrospective decisions. Unfortunately this is no easy answer, my suggestion is the 4th official plays more of an active part but again that could cause it's own problems as well. |

I started reading this thread and I was chuckling away as I thought it was a bit of a wind up, it appears not! To suggest someone might die because they got wet watching a football game is ludicrous, what's even more amusing is some seem to think a death could be avoided by the club handing out Alton Towers style rain Macs. FFS have we really become this bad, as most rational posters have pointed out dress for the occasion, failing that I'll go with the retractable roof idea. |

Some interesting points raised. I am a referee at the moment and have been for the last 4-5 years and I can guarantee you its not as easy as most people think. The pressure prem refs and indeed football league refs are under is immense. I have been fortunate this season to be involved in some FA Vase matches and a few of the early rounds of the FA cup and its a lonely place out there and this was only in front of around 400-500 fans. Someone mentioned why don't ex pros get involved, would they start at the bottom? Refing Sunday league games? Because that's where we all start. I know a few prem/football league refs and I can assure you they do an honest job and when they make mistakes they feel it. I do think we have suffered badly from refs this season though. |

Yes, assistant referees get £350 per game plus travel expenses, they also get a meal allowance if they are out for over 8 hours (which they almost certainly will be) Referee gets £500 per game plus expenses which can include a hotel if it's a night game. Premier league refs also get a annual retainer of £60,000. Although it's a fair bit of money when you think how much players are on and the responsibility on their shoulders every game it's peanuts. |
