Premier League In Advanced Talks To Resume Football
at 19:43:54

Best comment from St Michael in my opinion. This isn’t about politics. What we are currently witnessing is truly unprecedented. And what is very obvious is some footballers have been about as far removed from role models as anything during these difficult times. Some have actually been an absolute disgrace and should never represent their country again. I literally couldn’t give a sh1t about the Premiership right now. You can call it giving the public something to get excited about, but it’s really only about the TV money. I’d struggle to take satisfaction from football during a time like this. We should only consider it months down the line when there is a clear light on the horizon.

I’d take that SM on the basis that we’d not have to fret anymore. I’m sure the bottom 3 would argue the toss though, especially on the basis that some of them would have played harder games to date and had an easier run in. Will be interesting scenario.

Saints Latest Accounts Show Loss For Year Ended June
at 12:43:48

This is disappointing news for sure. And whilst I don’t disagree that our transfer flops (from a previous administration) have got us into this mess, I still can’t fathom out what is in this for Gao. I’m not sure why would suggest he is an asset stripper Nick. If he was looking to move money between jurisdictions for non-legitimate reasons then he wouldn’t necessarily have to take anything out and certainly wouldn’t put anything in. I can’t see what he gets out of this and I don’t trust him one bit. Whatever you say we were promised the purchase by Gao would “take us to the next level”. We have seen absolutely no evidence of that. In fact we will continue to lose ground on the top teams the longer we go without new investment. That’s less of a moan then a staringly obvious fact.

To be totally honest I'd be fairly comfortable with just writing this season off. I'm guessing Bournemouth would agree with that too. Liverpool might not, but hey I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

Will West Ham Protests Work For Or Against Saints On Saturday
at 14:17:30

Last time West Ham were there for the taking we made Antonio look like Ronaldo and we got absolutely taken apart.

I have little sympathy for a club who inherited a new ground at the taxpayer's expense. Regardless of how they think there club is run, we aren't in any real position to comment as we have largely winged it into our current position. Our reluctance to sign key personnel will eventually come back to bite us on the @rse. As well as we are doing now until we invest something you're always going to be left wondering how much better we could be doing with a couple of good signings. My main worry is Ralph will end up leaving in the same manner Koeman did when a better opportunity came up "to match his ambition".

Did Charlie Austin Have A Point !

Nick, as for possibly offending Gao and giving him reasons not to dip into his pockets, I don’t think we will ever witness this.

Did Charlie Austin Have A Point !
at 12:43:19

It’s not fair just to blame the supporters, but more the modern game. I’d agree social media is often vile and gives a voice to idiots, who are better off not being heard. I left Twitter when I starting panicking that it was a representation of the people of this country. It’s a dark prospect and I have to say I’m glad I’m not a kid again growing up with all the hate and anger.

The main problem though is the massive wedge of cash that continues to increase and separates those who have to make sacrifices to afford a season ticket and those who struggle to spend what they earn! You can see why resentment exists and it’s not unique to Southampton FC. I still think that Saints’ poor home form is more to do with how the team sets up then the moaners around the ground.

As for Charlie he did a job for us, but clearly wasn’t suited to our style of play. The high press was not really his game! He’s also another footballer who thrives off being controversial, whilst at the same time not being particularly bright. It’s a bad combination for someone in the public eye. He might do well to avoid social media too!

Saints At Tottenham Hotspur The Verdict
at 17:10:00

I’m gutted, I thought a good cup run and top half finish might turn out to be the miracle conclusion to the season. We have yet again messed up the chance to strengthen and will now rely pretty much on good fortune that no one else gets injured. We can’t keep winging this.

On a separate note VAR is a proper joke. Why on earth is it there for anything apart from the controversial? Who cares if a striker’s nose is offside?! You can dive and cheat and still get away with it. All the gear and no idea. Second game in a row we’ve been done.

Saints Transfer Window ! Good Or Bad
at 13:23:37

Just a thought, but we wouldn't even have to have this discussion if we used the few months at the end of the season effectively. So maybe mugs do pay over-inflated prices, but I'm not sure what's worse being a mug or being so arrogant/greedy that you think you can keep turning pennies into pounds and keeping everyone happy and the club in the PL. We were told we might get 3-4 players in the window to strengthen us. What a load of carp.

Yoshida An Appreciation
at 13:14:51

Nick, you failed to mention his award for club defender of the season when he had a consistent run in the team. VVD is a world class defender, but not perfect, we can't say what would have happened in the cup because as per the norm those days we were up against 12 players on the day. Also our other "better" defenders had much better defensive cover in front of them. Yoshi should be given more credit for being made a scapegoat for other failings within the club and for his versatility in times of need.

Saints At Liverpool The Verdict
at 13:20:51

That was a complete sucker punch of a result. And it’s a shame VAR wasn’t used as it should have been, i.e. to cancel the Liverpool goal, book their player and give us a pen. Good to see the technology not being used. It certainly would have been a different game then, but hey this is Liverpool and it feels like we should just accept it because it’s ‘their turn’. Whatever.

It’s a shame we’ve ‘used’ the window too to effectively weaken ourselves. Is it just arrogance or naivety? It’s a very worrying trend, and once again is proof we have no money. How are we ever going to improve if we insist on hampering ourselves?

On a final note, where’s the thank you Yoshida article? What a class professional and club man. I still maintain he is underplayed. If he’d had the run our other players have had he’d probably be playing now. I wish him all the best at his new club.

Everton After Hojbjerg ! Cash Or Swap Deal to Bring Ex Saint Home ?
at 13:17:55

I have to admit I was one of Hojbjerg's biggest fans when we first arrived. I thought he looked a class above at the time, but his performances of late seem to have less brilliant. I think I’d say the same of Romeu, who has progressively got worse in my opinion. Both seem to be prone to an error and a few bad passes (and lots of pointless passes). £35m would be silly money provided we were able to find a replacement or a youth team player ready to step up to the plate.

More controversially I’d love to see Morgan back if he fancied it. He’d have something to prove to the Premier League and he could be the leader we look for on the pitch. Along with Lambert they are two of the best players we’ve brought into the club in terms of what we paid for them. I certainly don’t hold it against Morgan that in an era where it felt everyone in the squad was looking to jump ship, that he felt some entitlement to the big time after 7 excellent years’ service and he didn’t refuse to play like others or make long-term commitments to the club, which he would later go on to break. He’s had his chance now and if he wants another one to prove he’s still got it then this could be it. It’s not a situation to dissimilar to Bertrand. He was at Chelski and sampled the CL, but he wanted regular football and found somewhere where he can do that. Having ambition doesn’t necessarily make you the bad guy. Only when you’re a completely disrespectful **** in the way you go about it.

Leicester City Want Vestergaard

Saints V Wolverhampton Wanderers The Verdict
at 19:39:26

It hurts. It did yesterday at 5pm and it still does now, especially after carving out a decent lead and seeing other results go fortuitously our way. It feels a little like that season where Leicester won the league. You have one team winning week in, week out (this time the Scouse) and beyond them places are up for grabs. With a little bit of investment in a show of ambition a number of teams could pick up a really decent league spot. Unfortunately that won’t be us under the current administration. The only positive is it’s obvious we can’t keep papering over the cracks and we do need some leadership and competition for places. Ralph is being let down.

Leeds Sources Claim Che Adams Move To Elland Road Is On
at 12:37:04

I’d be extremely disappointed if we let a young prospect go so easily. I’d like to think Che would be very disappointed in himself too, as he doesn’t strike me as a quitter. Sometimes you have to learn your trade and I, like many other fans, are prepared to give the younger players more time to prove themselves. If he was loaned out to rebuild his confidence that wouldn’t be the end of the world, but as you say Nick that would leave us with little cover. Like all strikers, a goal or two changes everything and you can tell he’s giving it everything.

Yoshida Unlikely To Get New Contract
at 19:51:43

To be fair to Maya when he had a proper run in the side he won the club’s Defensive Player of the Year award. I’m not sure he’s worse than Jan and Jack, but they’ve been given a chance to form a partnership. I wish him well whatever the outcome.

Saints At Leicester City The Verdict
at 19:46:04

Like others I am struggling to see where this resurgence has come from, other than a manager who has stopped over coaching and stuck with consistent team selections. I like Ralph the person and I liked Ralph the manager, and then I didn’t and now he’s won me back over again. I hope he realises how lucky he is because in this day and age it’s very rare to escape a sacking after just a defeat of that magnitude, let alone the run preceding it. That should have been the icing on the cake. But it wasn’t, whether that was penny pinching luck or just good foresight who knows, but it’s worked out well for us and the players look happy again and are working their socks off. Ings is just incredible. I’d still like to see us bolster the squad though. We’re playing well, but we’re paper thin cover wise in some positions. And there’s no room for complacency.
