This season......your thoughts.
at 22:22 25 Mar 2025

We are pretty much where I expected (hoped) we would be at this point. i just didn't expect it to be so dichotomous in terms of results and performances. I thought we would be bobbing along in (lower) mid-table all season, ultimately nudging up around 60 points, thereby signifying progress.
Instead, by November I thought we were gone, by January - even though I never seriously considered the play-offs - I was very satisfied. Now? Now I just want it to be over.

Yep I had kept a shed load of paper clippings from The 'Sligo Champion' when that transfer went through. 30k if memory serves. Didn't work out as well as I hoped, but scored twice for Ireland as a QPR player. Billy Hamilton was doing his thing for NI around the same time I think

Yes Azaz played well, always gets his head up looking for options. Ferguson very rusty but took his goal superbly, needs a run of games at club level. With Festy, Chiedozie and Sammy to come back, starting to have some decent options up front. Solid at the back, excellent keeper, still lightweight in midfield, but overall better than for a while.

Tbf though he is directly responsible for us having two extra points, with his (relatively) late winner v Blackburn. Which may be pertinent as we have started throwing glances over our collective shoulders recently.
My view on his performance on Saturday, may be contrary to most, in that is just serves to frustrate me that he doesn't produce this level more regularly. This is a collective observation of the whole team, not just Coleback. If we had played against Boro as we played against Leeds, there is a real possibility we would have got something from the game. The inverse is also true, we would have got a tonking by Leeds if we had produced the level of commitment we showed at Boro. They are professional footballers , they are not allowed to adopt an al a carte attitude to when they will give it their all, and when they can't really be arsed.

In very simple terms...

We don't lose games in which we manage to score 2 goals or more. The only exception to this all season is Leicester and that doesn't count because as we all know we don't 'do' the FA Cup. In fact yesterday and away v SU are the only two occasions all season when we have not won a game after scoring twice. This merely reinforces what we already know, I know; that A our defence is relatively solid and B we don't score enough goals goals. Interesting though I thought all the same, that 2 goals was enough to get something from the game against the top two sides in the country, and maximum points against the rest. Not a huge fix I would have thought with all the shot attempts we have.

Fast start meets fraught end in the battle of logic versus vibes - Report
at 13:15 17 Mar 2025

Cheers, Clive, as I said in the match thread, all of you who travelled to Middlesboro deserved that first half and indeed the overall result.
Brian, you are much more an expert on GK than I am, but I think with Saito (as with Chair's first against Derby) it was the quickness of the shot, rather than the accuracy of it that caught the respective keeper out. It was the same with Dykes v SU and Frey against Watford (I think), neither were brilliant strikes, but the fact that they took it on first time, surprised the respective keepers. Now I think of it, Coleback v Blackburn fits into that category too. I think that keepers expect players to take a touch (which they usually do) and this gives them a second to get set.

And of course that's the big frustration, because produce that performance at Boro or 10 man WBA and you win the game It's nothing to do with money and all about desire and workmate. But that needs to be week in week out

Look lads (and Nix) we have had a much more enjoyable 1st half than we dared hope for or expected. Those that travelled to Boro especially during the week deserved that half. Whatever happens 2nd half, can't take that away from us

It's not a bad time to come into the squad with Festy and Chiedozie injured. Be nice to see him get a run

Defeats mount once more as QPR limp to meek Boro loss – Report
at 10:22 13 Mar 2025

Sorry ManinBlack, but I disagree that it is simply about the 'haves' versus the 'have nots' That's too Rednapp-eque for me. It is much more about attitude and work rate. Any team can beat any team in this league. Classic example over the past few days; Portsmouth beat leaders, Leeds and a couple of days later lose at home to the bottom club, Plymouth, who couldn't win away for love nor money. We hammered Leeds at home last season, because we wanted it more.
No for me, attitude and work rate are the great equalisers. As Clive said in his report, a modicum of more effort on Tuesday night would probably have yielded a different result. As I have said many times whether we are winning and when we are not; when we are bang at it, we are a match for any team, when we are not, we're not.

24 Hours in A&E - Preview
at 18:03 11 Mar 2025

You are right, Clive, when you say our downturn in fortunes has coincided with our attempts to play more 'expansive' football. But the real issue is our inability to score goals, which haunted us in our initial dismal run and has revisited us in recent weeks Derby aside, we haven't scored more than a goal a game in the past 6 and drawn a blank at Portsmouth Coventry and WBA. In our purple patch we were scoring 2 per game regularly. Our defence has not worsened in recent weeks but our potency has reverted back to Aug - Nov.

I'd settle for any player who could score ten bloody goals in a season whatever number he wears on his back
