I think most will agree with you, and in the not too distant future, those three behind a striker may come to pass, with Saito and Smyth also being under consideration. That would make for a very creative and potentially potent attacking line-up, that could do some serious damage. In the meantime, three goals as a novice forward in just 4 actual starts (3 in that position) and 4 appearances off the bench, is testament to his undoubted ability to adjust to playing in that role. For mine, he is now an integral part of this team. He also has two goal assists. So pleased for him. |

Well summarised. That has happened in the last few games and Saito has been dispossessed way too easily. He's still a talent who will get better and I hope he's with us beyond this season. However, there are levels and he's not at Chair's level yet. Chair also dropped deep on a few occasions, when he came on, to receive a pass and got a shot off, which their keeper saved and then thwarted Smyth's effort going in. In addition to the instances you mentioned, that's some involvement in just over half-an-hour's play. We have definitely missed Paal too, who that miss aside, had a good game and enabled us to use the entire width of the pitch. They dovetailed well down the left-hand side. [Post edited 22 Dec 12:33]

The wonderfully gifted Dave Thomas who could cross effortlessly with either foot. The best winger I have seen at QPR. A player who played at the highest level for the majority of his career, with England caps to boot. Comparisons, directly/obliquely, are being drawn with Paul Smyth, really. And yes, Dave Thomas would get past defenders and deliver accurate/inch perfect crosses at a rate of frequency that Smyth can only dream of achieving. Achieved on pitches that most of the time resembled quagmires. [Post edited 16 Dec 12:08]

Totally this. Amazes me that some of us seem to think that we are a better team without him. He was only on the field for about 15 minutes, but in that time the ball was played to him in tight situations/areas and the ball stuck. That never happened with Saito, yesterday, who is very talented, but yesterday's game showed to me that he still has a lot to learn. When Paal came on, for the first time in the entire game, the left-side linked up effectively: correctly weighted passes played to feet and then running off the ball to receive the return pass and actually move forward into space with some purpose. We'll need him for the remainder of the season as he's better than all of the other attacking midfield players at our club. The MC's rallying call, post-match, that the club isn't lulled into thinking that we've turned the corner, was telling as well. [Post edited 15 Dec 20:57]

I keep reading that he's young. He's 23. Novice in terms of the number of starts at any level of proper competitive football, but he's not that young. |

Delighted that we managed to get an undeserved point today. I would argue that the referee's performance today, was far better than our team's. Worst performer of all being Andersen. The referee's decisions in the first five minutes had no bearing on our poor performance. What did you think of last week's referee, was he a homer too. For we were the beneficiaries of some favourable calls, which if awarded against us, could have changed the course of that game. [Post edited 14 Dec 19:02]

Love his effort, honesty and physicality, but agree totally with your summation re: lack of touch, technique and the ball hardly ever being under his control when running at defenders. Different position, but he was still a lot better than abject Andersen. |

He's been unbelievably poor all season and unbelievably, manages to get a free pass from many of us, as fans. He has to be replaced. Change shape and play Morgan, who should have started ahead of Andersen. He only looked good last season because of Willock and Chair being the opposition's focus of attention. I'm supporting him alright. However, Morrison isn't playing on his preferred side, yet he is capable of using his left foot and is comfortable in doing so when required. It's a basic skill which Ashby, coming from a premier league background, should have been able to master. There are no excuses. [Post edited 12 Dec 13:00]

Very good signing in my opinion. Can't stop thinking what might have been, had we been able to capture him instead of him going to Notts Forest and playing a huge part in their promotion. I hope we re-sign him, as all sides need experienced heads amongst the younger nucleus of players. Morrison is a good prospect and has performed well to date, but will have dips in form. It happens to virtually all young players. |

Just had a quick look. Ashby isn't young a la Kolli or Morgan, he's 23 years old and cannot use his left foot to play a simple pass down the line or to pass to his team mates. He chose to go down the premier league club route because it was/is lucrative, financially, for as long as his current contract lasts. That though, is at the expense of him playing regular competitive football and honing his skills. Such as being competent enough to use your weaker foot. We got lucky last night due to Oxford being so abject. He must have played three to four passes into congested areas of the pitch last night in the second-half alone. Against better opposition they would have been seized upon and could have led to goals being conceded. All because he cannot use his left foot. 23 years of age and he's only started 20 games. In playing terms, he's still a novice in spite of his age. [Post edited 12 Dec 13:22]

Indeed. These kind of games always worry me. As fans, we tend to just turn up thinking that we don't have to get behind the team in the same way as we would when playing against a higher-placed team. That usually leads to an insipid performance from the team. Pompey and Hull spring to mind. Come on your R's |

How do you know that Paal isn't of the same mindset. This is the same player who has played a number of consecutive games for us, before succumbing to injury earlier this season. I'm certain that during that period of ever-presence, there would have been occasions when he wasn't 100% fit, yet he was clearly of the right mindset as he still played, minor injury notwithstanding. The same player who along with Cook, JCS and Dunne formed part of the defence, the foundations upon which last season's survival was built. Are we seriously saying that Ashby, who doesn't possess a left-foot for playing purposes, Fox and/or Santos are better options. Who are you suggesting that the club purchases to replace him in January. I would have thought that the club's priorities lie elsewhere on the football field. And he did of course provide an assist for Kolli's first goal and through his quick-thinking, almost scored himself directly from a free-kick. I personally would love to see both re-sign, as neither has let the club down and will both be hard to replace, based on their levels of competence as players and their durability. The lad's only played a total of about 160 minutes this season. Within that short period, essentially two games, he has scored two goals and provided one assist. I'd say that he has already clearly demonstrated what he is capable of. The fact that somebody saw it fit to ostracise him for about 10 league games, is folly of the highest order. He's way ahead of all of his peers of similar age, Morgan being the exception. By way of comparison, experienced, Danish international Andersen, who takes free-kicks and corners and has played for over 4 times as many minutes as Kolli, has no assists and the one goal provided by the 19-year old. We've got two real prospects at the club: Kolli and Morgan, who if nurtured properly, could generate this club a lot of money in years to come. It's now down to the club to ensure that their undoubted talents are fully realised. My one criticism of Kolli; stop doing those over-exuberant knee slides please, after having scored. I don't want you to injure yourself [Post edited 9 Dec 14:14]

It was. Check the number of runs he made beforehand to enable it. He made an initial run, checked himself in order not to get offside, feigned to go again, before making the final run, losing his marker and scoring. That's precocious talent. [Post edited 7 Dec 19:46]
