Spot on ... I was a 'normal' who 'lost it' on Tuesday, I usually thoughtfully accept outcomes but I was furious and angry on Tuesday .... I've watched through some bad times in almost 56 years of coming to Loftus Road, but that is one of the worst nights ever, not the score or the result, but the limp attitude of the team and, in particular, Celar.
God knows we've had some bad forwards in my time, but never anything as bad as Celar.
When a player is that bad, the manager should be trying alternatives, even people out of position but trying would surely be more effective than Celar.
If you can't score goals, then you can't win matches .... with Celar up front, we can't score.

Great article but one major aspect for me was Phillips winning the ball, going on a run and hitting the post all on his own. I'm not his biggest fan, but the way he retrieved the ball when Brighton were moving forward was something to behold. |

Just for the record, I was recently asked by an editor to do a 3,500 word article, think Patrick Barclay is a thick pillock, don't want Harry Redknap, was wrong about Hughes and contribute to the page imnpressions here because of the quality of the journalism.
I refuse to be a mainstream media muppet, I never watch Match of the Day, think the BBC has dumbed down to the point of making the Daily Mail look reasoned and given that harry Redknapp had the world believing the England job was his am hoping that this is just another junk journalism PR hype by Redknapp. However, I am resigned to the fact that my (feint) hopes will be dashed.
Thank God for Loft For Words, probably the best journalism in the world - can we have 4,000 words in future please? I have plenty of time to read your articles because I ignore the mass media......and their sheepish editors. |

Was going to say that we all thought it was a good game, so ain't just me.
Whilst TV can show things that spectators miss, equally it doesn't let you see the whole formation at any one time. The game had some good movement. Atmosphere can get lost...TBH the Orient fans made little noise......and there are domestic distractions at home.
The talk amongst many people was all about how awful Cook was, lost count of how many people commented on him having a 'mare'. But the poorest aspect of the game was the inability to finish.
I've seen many a worse game than that, Iain Dowie's last game at Swansea springs to mind, but they all seem worse on TV. Funnily enough, we had a conversation in the pub that evening about how much better it is being at the game than watching on TV.

Strange how we see things differently from different perspectives. I went to Orient v Brentford, with a Gillingham fan and several Bees fans and saw it rather differently to you, it would seem.
At £25 for a live Sky game from league 1, I'm not surprised that the crowd wasn't bigger. Despite that, the atmosphere in the Brentford section was brilliant. They are benefitting from developing lively young fans through cheap prices for under 18s. There were flats in more than 2 corners, in fact the flat owners adjacent to the Brentford fans suffered some abuse. No doubt they are used to it, but lewd songs referring to your wife whilst she is present was a little OTT IMO.
Without replays and commentaries and viewing from distance I thought Orient were absolutely awful and Cook had a nightmare in a reasonably entertaining game. So did my Gills supporting mate.
Cook failed to control some fairly simple balls at times (maybe you were distracted by honing your toenails at these key moments) and his body language looked like he hadn't got his heart in it to me (something you don't really see on TV coverage TBF). I came away feeling that unless he improves his enthusiasm that the only thing he can expect is even further decline. It was quite sad for me.
Rowlands took a lot of abuse from Bees fans but coped with it well.
As you say, Brentford play nice footie but can't score....but I think just about everyone agrees about that!
There was a nice 'Pop-Up Pub' in Leyton High Road for beers afterwards. Basically an Olympic novelty and due to close the following day....but it was fun and rounded off a very good evening out (including pre match drinks in Wanstead).
Basically Thirsty Thursday, good company and a fun night in the stands free of TV's Pillock Pundits and inane player interviews. I quite enjoyed it actually.

It may as well be the end of the world this place – walk beyond it and you'll find the appropriately named Hellbottom Wood, then the Great Wood, then Denham Wood and basically a whole load of woods over the course of 25 ball aching miles until you reach Didcot Power Station. With woods to one side, hills to the other, and little else besides it's the kind of place you often see sealed off with police tape, the kind of place dog walkers find rotting corpses.
....beyond Wycombe is the best area for cycling for miles, I regularly ride out from West London to cycle in the Chilterns, saw a few Willesden CC jerseys out there on Sunday. But then again you did say in a recent post that you didn't understand cycling. |

As for Clattenburg decisions, he did give us that controversial late winner at Highfield Road, Coventry, which only just crossed the line about 2 weeks after denying Spurs in that infamous incident at Old Trafford where it clearly crossed the line.
TV footage proved him right in our case. TV watching Spurs fans still moan about him and ignore the fact that he was probably 40 yards away and had no way of seeing the 6 different camera angles afforded lager louts in pubs by Sky TV. Ahhh big club fans, don'tcha just love 'em? |

A drop in your usual standard of writing I'm afraid Mr Whittingham. There is, at least, one more week of top quality sport to go as the Tour de France is still on. Indeed, a Brit could even win the Green Jersey to add interest.
Harrow Borough is walkable from my house but the game clashes with the TDF highlights on TV this evening. Looks like the sofa for me.

The Artur Wait was built in 69/70 and I seem to recall going there when it was terracing at the front and seats at the back.
Oh yeah, and I remember the benches at Maine Road. Benches at Wembley and Scumford Bridge too. Probably other places as well, but I usually stood in those days. I remember wooden terraces at Colchester way back when! |
