Of course they have leverage. They have held on for 3 years and the longer it goes on the more Russians die, the more Putin’s power weakens. They are picking off members of Putin’s inner circle and getting closer to him all the time.

Putin isn’t negotiating from a strong position though. By all measures this special military operation has been an unmitigated disaster. It’s impossible to say how many Russians have died. Ukraine claim it’s close to a million whilst Russia says it’s only a few thousand. Your favourite impartial and honest news outlet Al Jazeera suggest it’s around 600,000 so we’ll go with that for now. That’s 600,000 bereaved families, wives, mothers, brothers, children. And for what? So Putin can move his drinks cabinet six feet closer to Kiev.
This unnecessary loss of life is heartbreaking.
Remember in the mid 2000’s the images of the coffins of British lads coming home from that pointless senseless war in Iraq unloaded at Royal Wooten Bassett with people lining the streets to express their grief and sadness? Well imagine that times a thousand. That’s what the Russians are going through now. And for what? Absolutely nothing. |

Farage is the result of decades of inadequate government in wales, the uk and the EU. The systematic selling off of our countries assets, the worship of ‘the markets’ at all costs and the supine devotion to neoliberal policies.
He clearly isnt the answer but hes stepped into a vacuum and made a niche for himself. The cold hard fact is if government in this country has functioned for the benefit of the nation for the last few decades there would be no place for people like him, but it hasn’t and here we are. |
