Of course it has to be put into perspective given the poor reputation of the visitors... there are blocks around the ground not for sale. The end blocks of the mainstand and the scoreboard end of Pearl Street aren't on sale. They'll block off part of the Wilbutts too.
It could be worse - I honestly expected it to be cancelled so the club could hide in the corner until the pitch is playable. As for exiles, I am no longer bothered. Its too hard. I am certainly not travelling for it having wasted over 1000 miles of travel, fuel and hotel costs travelling to Spotland already this season for no reason. At least they have been shamed into doing something to placate Boston fans this time.
I just hope we have had the gumption to talk to Accrington or whoever to ground share until we can get the pitch fixed. Next week we play two games at home - fans that travel need to have some certainty or do we expect them to give up for the rest of the season?
I am baffled though - the ref for both Saturday and last Tuesday could see what we all saw and thought it was acceptable. You could see the ball wasn't bouncing or moving across the turf with any speed in that corner. Today the ref said it wasn't playable but the groundstaff thought it was.
If Boston were already on site, were they consulted and agreed with the ref's decision?
The clubs own website was advertising the hospitality package this morning for the Boston game. It is veg soup followed by a Christmas carvery. I'll bet its not.
An interesting read. And talking of ex directors, does anybody know how Andrew Kelly is? Last time I heard he wasn't well. I know he is Vice President of the club - but does he still attend games?
He has. I thought Brad Kelly looked assured between the sticks and made good saves when needed. And pleased we were able to keep a clean sheet after going down to 10 with 30 minutes or so to go
But to be fair, Ryan Bradley was on the top table at a recent fans forum and he answered many questions in this area. With the Ogdens heavily engaged with the wider communiy purpose through their foundation I would think Ryan has good engagement with Cameron
We have an excellent lead for Dale in the Community in Ryan Bradley. I suspect he will have led this.
I might be wrong, but I also don't believe that the Ogdens are looking at a new stadium. One day we might do so - and it will cost a good deal of money if it includes community facilities, training facilities, 24/7 conference and hospitality options and accommodation. But we are not ready for that level of financial investment (and risk). I am aware of at least one business working on the Spotland redevelopment plans - so I am keen to hear more over the next few months. If that can bring the revenue growth to meet a sustainable financial outcome I will be happy enough.
They are owned by the founder of Ecotricity - one of largest electricity suppliers in the UK. He knows what he is doing. We could do worse than engage with them - it has been said on here before that we might have had a more sensible approach to utility costs had we done so when the club committted to a 2 year deal at the height of tariffs.
I read that we would hear more in February on the redevelopments planned. I am sure they will take a few years if it is a rebuild job. They have to get on with the pitch regardless.
Its a bit depressing to read - but at least we have a better sense of what is going on now. The club needs a period of dry weather to get on top of temporary solutions. I suspect we have no choice but to make enquiries of other grounds in the area to get us through February. But the impact on the club at not having home games for the best part of two months will be significant. If the club need to run some events in the bars in the meantime to get some cash in they should say so.
I appreciate that they have also apologised for the inconvenience and cost that many fans have been through with cancellations.
