Fair point highfield - but do we honestly think that our new manager has actually seen any of our players in action in order to judge them and be aware of their relative strengths? And the masses that make up the non playing section of our largzly anonymous squad - will he have a clue where the extra potential lies? Ross Stewart was to be the striker we needed - can the new manager do anything about that, Sports Republic have managed to create such a mess that even if the talent is actually there that it will be months before the new Boss can get to grips with the real situation at St Marys - and we dont have 'months' if we are still looking to stay in the Premier League. The one consolation Martin has gone!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
| Forum Thread | Ivan Juric - Reasons to be cheerful 1,2,3 by Jellybaby at 13:17 21 Dec 2024
His name sounds a little bit like Ian Dury, so what a waste it would be to let that pass 3 reasons; 1. Pragmatism over idealism. No more passing in our own penalty area will be good 2. Heavy metal football sounds like it should be fun and attacking. 3. He sounds like a loose cannon - No boring yes man - excellent! |

Templarinexile, rightly or wrongly I'm not convinced that the majority of the players are necessarily ill equipped for the PL. I would say that the players were certainly ill equipped to play the game RM envisaged in his dreams, or fantasies. Let's give the new manager, presuming Juric is now at the club, the opportunity to use the players strengths and see if they can compete with other teams on a level playing field? |
| Forum Thread | Previous Premier League Experience As A Manager by SaintNick at 09:24 21 Dec 2024
In the past 70 years Saints have had 31 permanent managers, some people are bemoaning the lack of previous experience managing in the Premier League for the candidates, It should be noted that in that period only 7 had previous top flight managerial experience in England Ball, Souness, Hoddle, Strachan, Redknapp, Burley & Pardew |

The key to our very remote chance of survival rests on any positive transfer activity. The regular players in the team have mostly shown that they are ill equipped for the PL, and while a fresh manager may be able to get some improved performances, and maybe reduce the propensity for humiliating defeats, without a striker or two who can and will score goals at this level we will continue to flounder in the depths. |

Whatever anyone thinks about the appointment of Juric we’ve collectively got to get behind the team to the end of the season however results go Juric has got an almost impossible job to keep us up. God knows what SR will do in the transfer window but the fact that Kevin Danso’s name has already been mentioned means they are unlikely to be giving Juric much of a helping hand We can’t afford to have the bed wetters turning on the team if we lose three on a row and we have to support the team regardless if we’re to stand any chance Personally I’d set the first target as beating Derby’s 2008 low points tally of 11 points and work up from that COYS we march on |

Shock treatment in order to get players to raise their game and focus is the only way that we have any chance of staying up. Unlike some, I don't follow every league in Europe in depth, so I'll give any new Saints manager the benefit of the doubt until I see what they can actually do in post. Praying SR have got it right this time. COYR |

Absolutely right lansdownsaint, the negativity of some supporters beggars belief. Considering some of the other names touted around for the job I'm delighted that Ivan Duric is willing to take on the challenge. Unlike recent appointments we won't be paying stupid amounts of compensation to another club or pandering to the inflated egos of those unemployed who believe that they are too good to even consider the job. There's no way of knowing whether he can get us out of the relegation places but equally there's no reason to think he can't improve the win ratio either. |

St Michael, it’s not what most fans wanted but it was what needed to happen. I don’t quite understand how you can defend the last 16 league games under Martin. 5 points and 13 losses. Players asked to do things they can’t do leading to errors and goals conceded without any sign of a change in that pattern, heading for a 15 point season. Had he tried to adapt things may have improved but he refused to. Crazy stuff and we have become a laughing stock again. The other issue is that those above him lack nous as proved by a catalogue of poor decision making and no true footballing expertise looking to arrive anytime soon. They could see the obvious weeks ago, exactly what football experts predicted, that our game plan was madness and we’d get even more punished for it in a league higher. They just kicked the can down the road. Unlike the rest of you, I don’t think we’re down yet because there’s 3 or 4 other teams who are no better than our squad. |
