Former Saints Striker Could Be Coming Home ! on 09:42 - Mar 11 with 989 views | PatfromPoole | As things currently stand, we know that we have the following players owned by the Club, all of whom are proven in the Championship:- Armstrong Archer Brereton We may even find that Onuachu may score a few in the Championship. Which is as big an indictment about the gap in quality between the two Leagues that I can make. I don't see the point in trying to sign Ings. He has a poor injury record, has lost the sharpness he had when he was so good with us, and his wages would be high.

I would keep Archer, Armstrong & Brereton Diaz, I think Onuachu will probably be sold to Turkey to get some money back on him. Ings has been fit and available for most of the last 6 years since he joined us permanently from Liverpool, so I don't think his injury record would be an issue. However as you say the first 3 are proven in the Championship and younger, so probably signing Ings not a priority unless one of them leaves.

We also have a couple of attack-minded players due to return from Goztepe. The Brazilian dude Juan and the Japanese lad Matsuki. We need to start seeing some return from this sister club arrangement.

Probably only paper talk but if not, it’s just another example of Sports Republics detachment from reality. Ings is a 33 year old injury prone has been, much in the same vain as Llanna.

Why is this an example of Sport Republics detachment from reality ? Ings is not injury prone, the last time he was out for a prolonged period was during his season on loan with us, since then he has been pretty much available for every game not only with us, but Villa & West Ham. So to dismiss him just on perception is just not getting to the truth

You get certain players who occasionally in the twilight of their career can still have a major impact. Sheringham and Strachan spring to mind; James Milner as well. They seem to be few and far between though. And I'm not sure Ings is showing any signs he can have an impact in the later years of his career. Now I would absolutely love us to sign James Milner. A fitness fanatic and a true leader.

Nick, honestly how many examples do you want ? 1. Relegated from the Premier League twice in three years. 2. Employed more hopeless managers than any other club that I can think of. 3. Wasted £ millions by purchasing any number of Championship standard journey men. 4. Totally unable or unwilling to communicate with their fan base except when they want to extract money from us. 5. Can’t even put out a competitive team in a Fourth round F A cup tie at home to Burnley. Ings always was injury prone as a young player and I very much doubt the situation has improved now he is 33 years old.

Pretty much sums them up. And people moaned about The Chinese Ronnie Corbett.

That wasn't the question though was it ? I would agree with all 4, on number 5 losing to a Championship club 1-0 in the FA Cup 4th round is not the worst FA cup defeat we have had, I remember losing to 3rd Division Wrexham in 1974, now who was the manager for that one ? Yes Ings was injury prone during his time at Liverpool and in his first season at Burnley, but since 2018 when he joined Saints on loan, after playing 24 games out of the 36 he could have played in that season, he has not missed anymore than the average player through injury, so to answer your question yes things have improved drastically for him since he was in his mid 20's

To be honest Nick I’m not certain what your question actually was. If you repeat it for me I’ll give a reply my best shot. Reference your suggestion that he has not missed anymore games than the average player, I venture to suggest that if you are correct it’s because he spends most of his time warming West Ham’s bench. This season has been an unmitigated disaster. The summer will be an opportunity to wipe the slate clean and start afresh. You don’t do that by employing a 33 year old injury prone has been.

It's hard to gauge whether Ings is still injury prone. Since he left us he has mostly kept the bench warm. We have players that are proven in the Championship, and who knows, Ross Stewart may even improve his appearance record of 4 games a season. Would rather we looked elsewhere for a new striker. I had actually totally forgotten about Ross Stewart, when I mentioned Archer, Armstrong and Brereton at the top of this thread. Ross Stewart is potentially better than any of those listed. I just can't see him playing again for us sadly.

Bazunu up front? He is, as we were told, good with his feet.
