5 Things From Chelsea 10:47 - Feb 19 with 1772 viewsSaintNick

It was overall a great day at Stamford Bridge and it is perhaps the London ground where we have done best over the years.

1. The Saints fans were magnificent, although I do find it strange that some still show their support by calling certain players sh*t loudly in the midst of otherwise stoic support

2. Chelsea's support was poor, the ground seemed silent for most of the game.

3. They still haven't sorted out the upper level aisles, still slippy with the slightest bit of water.

4. Saints supporters were singing a song about Ruben Selles in a pub by Putney Bridge 2 hours before kick off and on the tube going to Fulham Broadway, just the sacking of Jones seems to have given the fans a boost.

5. There is renewed hope that we can escape relegation

1) Their fans were friendlier than I expected. Many saying well done you deserved that after the game. They seemed quiet and not angry at all.

2) I heard a lot of American accents. Spoke to a guy supporting Chelsea on the tube who had flown in from New York. He had a wasted trip 😭

3) Chelsea have the greatest number of stewards I have ever seen. Walking into the away end, there were literally about 100 stewards in various lines up until the turnstyles.

4) Our fans were loud, relieved that Jones had gone, and were full of support for Selles and the team.

5) Good view from the upper shed end, but steep and slippery. Proper away end though, all the way up to the goal, behind the goal. You can make a noise. Easy to get to the ground on the tube.

1. Certainly agree, that’s the 10th time I’ve see us beat Chelsea there including Fa Cup and ZDS game, and on top of that saw us win Semi Final there iin 76, so London Ground I’ve seen us win most often

Although Selhurst Park probably a close second where I’ve seen us win on 9 occasions v Palace, although also seen us beat Charlton and Wimbledon there

1. Surprised there weren’t that many Chelsea fans in The Temperance. Decent boozer.

2. Chelsea fans from Weymouth are still dicks. Bit of bantz on the way home….

3. SWT replacement bus from Bournemouth to Eastleigh at 7.30am took about 45 minutes to get to Eastleigh. Great going.

4. I didn’t think our fans were that good yesterday. Very quiet for a large part of the game. We need to up our game if the team are going to stay up.

5. Lavia really is a Rolls Royce. Chelsea must wish they had signed him in the summer.

The greatest thing about Chelski on Saturday, apart from the result was that Selles got the team to play as one, they gave it everything they had and deserve all the plaudits and praise that's being bestowed upon them.

Harsh on the fans, I thought it was ok, trouble with Chelsea is it is on two levels so the top level cant really here the bottom level and vice versa

There was a quiet period at the start of the 2nd half but I thought the away support was excellent. Loved the support for Selles. Just wish we had another song apart from "Oh when the Saints"
The unofficial Saints travel coaches were not allowed to park in the spot outside the ground to pick us up, even though they had permits. Apparently the Chelsea stewards refused permission.
Came out of the ground to no coach in the agreed spot and lots of confusion which ended up with a group of us trekking about trying to find it in the the back streets.

Given that Chelsea were kind enough to put in safe standing in the away end, and also to let Saints win, I thought our support was pretty poor.

Quiet for long spells of the game.

Lack of songs is the real issue

The fans did have a quiet spell in the second half, but they were nervous and on edge as we headed towards the final part of the game - totally understandable. We desperately needed to hold on to the one nil win. Had we got the second goal, the fans would have been more comfortable. I thought the Saints fans were excellent, relieved that Jones had gone, fully behind Selles, fully behind the players. The scenes and emotions at the end of the game, I haven't seen for a long while.
