Worst ever QPR XI 13:29 - Nov 15 with 16907 views | derbyhoop | We've had previous threads on the best XI but, prompted by a Facebook discussion about the worst player, how about the worst team. I suggest we do not go back into the 1950s and 1960s. Those who were there then (incl me) probably can't remeber as well as they think. Your starter for ten Bankole; John Curtis, Bob Malcolm, Gus Caesar, Ugo Ukah; Keith Rowlands, Ned Zelic, Alex Bonnot, Nick Ward; Brett Angell, Dominic Iorfa Subs could include Tony Roberts, Christer Warren, Sammy Koejoe The subs would actually make the team (slightly) better.

Worst ever QPR XI on 18:14 - Nov 15 by W7Ranger | I actually didn't mind him. Didn't he suffer a career ending injury with us? Also, who was that really tall white forward we had about 7-8 years back? Scandinavian I think? Possibly bald (can be certain)? Think he scored a diving header at the school end in a 3-0 win against Norwich, Green was in goal! |
Marc Nygaard!!! Just answered my own question!!!

Worst ever QPR XI on 17:00 - Nov 15 by Toast_R | Right here’s mine for a reason. In goal, Tony Roberts. We had a great team back when the Prem started and yet suffered Tony Robert’s butter fingers and ineptness for seasons on end. He was never a Premiership quality goalkeeper. Remember the farcical situation where he was ahead of Stejskal and at one point was temporarily replaced by Bob Corolgees lookalike Sieb Dystra? Defence Zesh Rehman, awful, and so far out of his depth I actually felt sorry for him. John Curtis, Insanely bad, I know we were skint but what was that all about? Danny Murphy, I wanted him to do well so bad but third tier football and he wasn’t good enough and that’s as bad as we’ve got since I’ve been following. Does anyone remember the Tranmere goal he goofed on? Steve Morrow. The ass who fell off a Donkey and broke his arm. Unlucky for him he was paired with an injury prone uninspiring back 4 the season we were relegated. I remember going to a depressing grey day in Watford and seeing him try to gee up his defence and seconds later being culpable for two corners gifted to Watford on a plate. Things like that stay with you. Midfield. Tommy Docherty. Joey Barton on steroids without the footballing brain. George Kulscar, What did he actually do? What was he even doing there? Matthew Rose, posh boy plays football. Whoops he injured again, 6 months later…. Tony Scully, the boy could run but he was dreadful apart from that freak goal against Palace. Brett Angel. Way over the top, fat and looked like some ones dad filling in for on his teenage sons crap team. Eric Sabin. Looked the part but was just rubbish and nothing you could add. Loans, Callum Willock, Karl Ikeme, |
Interesting you should mention Danny Murphy there Toast. He currently plies his trade at Cork City and he looks a tidy hard working player whenever I have seen him. But it could be he has met his level over here. I would agree with so many of the bad players mentioned here down the years. Vinney Jones springs to mind as one of my worst R's players. Surely Macheda should get a mention as a barbarically bad loanee. I think the team during the Huston regime made for grim viiewing. The style of play under him was so bad, I almost gave up watching the team. And what a dull person he was too. Only equalled by Hart and Harford.

Worst ever QPR XI on 16:23 - Nov 15 by BrianMcCarthy | Michael Meaker. How did I forget. Didn't try a leg. Just as well because he only had one. Head-down shoeless merchant who never worked on his game in the slightest so continually forced to run around like a clockwork mouse. When the little bit of stamina he had was spent, the full back would saunter past his collapsed pigeon-chested corpse, avoiding his razor-sharp Elvis haircut, and collect the ball. Had the odd shot. Very odd. Liked to hit the ball into the School End. Used to rotate it between Upper and Lower. Consequently, always known by our crew as End-of-Move Meaker. Left Rangers for Reading and pronounced himself delighted. Reading was a great move for him, he stated, as it was just down the road! Summed him up. |
My vivid memory of him was the sight of him v Norwich, labouring along the line by SAR then somehow the ball got to Sir Les who showed him what to do and ran diagonally from just inside his own half accelerating past each attempted tackle then hitting a great cross shot from the right of the area to the top left hand corner. Poor Danny Murphy, he didn't look THAT bad until THAT Tranmere game which seemed to sap all his confidence and in turn, support. The big mistake in that game wasn't all his fault as I recall, it was a dreadful passing exchange between him and Lee Cook

Meaker came on as sub at Highbury when Jensen scored. Impey played a cross field ball to Meaker, then ran across the pitch to take it off him, overlap and cross for the second goal.
Worst ever QPR XI on 20:32 - Nov 15 with 2033 views | Aitch | Ossie Ardiles should be in there. I particularly loved the defence splitting pass he made when we played Tottenham. Shame it split our defence and went straight to a Spuds player who scored. To this day I'm convinced he thought he was playing for them. Doudou deserves a mention & not just for his name. Ball at feet = fall over.

Ardiles the only player I've heard getting booed on his debut, anyone remember that day at WHL when shortly after he got Mark Dennis sent off Fenwick elbowed him in the throat causing a ten minute injury delay and several thousand Rangers singing " you Argentinian bastard " for ten minutes. Fenwick never even got spoken to, these days one of 100 cameras would of had him suspended for a month. Probably the most surprising signing we have ever made. [Post edited 15 Nov 2013 21:57]

Worst ever QPR XI on 03:00 - Nov 16 with 1952 views | SonofNorfolt | Right. Taking many factors, ie, transfer fee, reputation, perceived ability and rose tinted spectacles with many fans, here is my lifetime three am cold shiver squad. 1. A. Bankole. Man, even before he got his Andy Warhol moment, the crowd were nervous. Comedy on a par with Porridge. 2. T. Forbes. A trier, but, hopeless footballer. Those gloves came in handy during the alleged rape rial. 3. C.Wilson. No talent aaaaaaaaaaaaaah not really. Left back is a toughie, so I'll play someone out of position. 4. A. Ferdinand. A centre back who does not tackle, head or challenge really, a centre forwards dream, I'm surprised it took many so long to see through him. 5. D. Gabbidon. We swapped Gorkss for him effectively. Have you ever seen someone less comfortable with the ball at their feet.? 6. Z.Rehman. See above. 7. B.Williams CAPTAIN. He obviously had the best game of his life aginst us for Bury in the cup. Fuc king rubbish. 8. S.Moore. The paper bag chaser. He has been ever since in about tier 8. 9. C.Kiwomya. He could play a bit, but what a lazy cu nt. 10. R.Taylor.Do you remember? Ex- Brentford, Wolves loanee. Worse than dreadful. 11. G.Hill. Ex England and MU winger, completely washed up when here. 12. V.Mobley. He was crocked when we signed him. 13. A?. Czerkas. A Polish fourth division player. 14. A.? Pellicori. My Italian mates still laugh. I've forgotten a few beauties, but will no doubt remember when I have a bad day. Can't believe Mark Falco was even considered, along with Gary Bannister should be in the Underrated XI.

I feel for bankole as a keeper coming on it s really tough... Shouldn't be included here Gabbidon being included is a joke, he was good for us. Not great but good. We stayed up the season he played for us remember!! Plus he still plays in the premier league... C kiwomya also cannot be included here, not always the best but some vital goals... Pellocori, Nigel quashie (the second coming), boothroyd ageymang all get mentions for me.... The fact is one of them ever played at any sort of level ever again after us and t shows how stupid we can be Park anyone as well? Truly awful

Worst ever QPR XI on 13:30 - Nov 16 with 1855 views | RS44 | Clive Wilson? Seriously? He was one of the best left backs that's ever played for us. So many others you could choose from. Roberts, Culkin, Sabin.... The list goes on. You can always see how poor a player is when he leaves us and goes on to play for.... Well, no body. Our team of the late 90s early 00s was notorious for this. a couple of players I always thought were pony yet others will disagree were Richard Langley. I never saw anything in him at all. Just an average player. Left us and went on to do nothing. Paul Murray was another one. Even before his injury, was too light weight. Easily pushed off the ball, couldn't pass if it was longer that 20ft away. Again left us and done absolutely nothing. Lee Cook too, totally overrated just because he was a fan. A couple of good months when on loan but for a fair few seasons he was a pretty poor player.

Langley and Cook are terrible calls. Both were ruined by injury, but were excellent before. Langley had about the best technique I've seen from one of our players, he struck the ball so cleanly. Was it Chesterfield where he took the corner, it was headed back out to him, and he hit a curving half volley into the opposite top corner? As for Cook, I don't think I've ever seen a full back as humiliated as Palace's Danny Butterfield against him.
Worst ever QPR XI on 16:53 - Nov 16 with 1823 views | RS44 | I stand by my call. Regardless of injury, I really don't think any of them were any better than league 1 level. My opinion was unpopular back then, and it still is now, but I just didnt think they were as good as some people believed. The fact they all left us and done nothing proves it. A lot of top players suffer bad injuries but still retain their level. Some improve. These guys stayed the same, and got found out. Completely over rated
Worst ever QPR XI on 16:54 - Nov 16 with 1822 views | RS44 | That's not really a sign of a good player surely? I think if we're all being totally honest, we could all tear Danny Butterfield a new one.

You can't criticise some players for not recovering as well as others from injury. You could say Duncan Edwards was over-rated for not winning any trophies after his plane crash. Langley had great natural ability but lost pace and confidence after a cruciate injury. Was it an Achilles with Cook? Fulham paid millions for him, but he never recovered his best form.
