Can anyone recall what years LFW was on its various platforms and iterations?

It occured to me recently that I've been on here, on and off, interacting with many of the same posters for what must 20 years or so? Pretty nuts really. Friends I've had IRL for that sort of time I consider lifelong friends. This little community Clive's created is really something.

[Overly moist message ends]

I just remember it being on the 'Rivals' network but no idea of when.... 20+ years ago maybe?

Wasn't there a Pro Boards version or something too? Or have I made that up?

I joined as rivals or its precursor around 2004 or 2005 when I was living in wonderful wonderful Copenhagen.

Never knowingly understood

I started posting on rivals in 1998, when that closed Ron & Simon set up QPR.net and that then split into this,I think Ingham moderated for a short while with a “anything goes attitude” and then a very young poster from oop North took over am here we are all these years later.

Smiffy used to wind a few up,a few posters met up with him one match day and had a word in his ear, sadly he passed away a few years back after not fully recovering from a motorbike accident.

Bless Ingham. I emailed him asking if he fancied some help. He said "here's the keys, I think you'll enjoy it". 20 years ago this season.

I don’t know but I’d like to think Ingram is still around. Does anyone know?

I joined about 2007/08. Long time. I didn't post for a while, and refused to go on the forum but just write in those comment sections on Clives match reports.
Ingham used to write epic posts didn't he?. Pretty sure he dj's too.

I met up with Smiffy before a game, he was an alright bloke tbh but when he was posting on here he was/had a different personality.
Met loads of posters back In the Rivals days.
Where the f uck they are nowadays gawd knows.
There's no craic on here anymore or so It seems.

Far-far to serious.

Don’t go back as far as some but at least 15yrs and lot of change. Online at very different time to UK & for a while had likes of Brooklyn, Japan, Canada, Sydney & the nocturnal BazWot for company on a slow NZ work day. Also met a few Kiwi fans and from a couple of Nasi Goreng lunches NZ QPR sprung up and over 200 folks strong now.
Do need to bring that word association thread back….

It's quite the legacy mate. Was there another platform LFW was on briefly, other than this and Rivals? I could have sworn there was a brief stint on pro boards ?

I started that game up front with RoadDog and I don't think there's ever been a worse striking partnership to pull on the hoops. Our best player (Maverick) had one arm.

I can remember being on a previous version of this board in the very early 2000s.

LFW historians on 07:09 - Feb 20 with 1498 viewsSydneyRs

Aside from Ingham who used to write very long and interesting posts, I also remember Stevenage Hoop (who I had quite a few beers with when he visited Sydney), and Aussie Bee (Brentford fan who posted on the old board and who I ran into watching an England world cup game in 2002).

Sweepy Bee was another Brentford fan and quite the pest on our board. He quietened down a bit after someone identified him (he was running for the local council at the time). There was a football game arranged between our board and the Brentford one. Maybe someone here played or was there, but I think Sweepy agreed to have QPR shaved into his head if we won. We did and it was done. There were photos posted at the time. Just realised a couple of posters above were involved in the game, probably should have read the replies first.

Anyone remember the legendary "Fulham Boy can't get a seat" thread?

I miss Ingham's post. I say posts, they were more like mini novels.

Smells like a trout farm in here

Yeh I've forgotten what it was called TBH.

Sky absolutely mullered the Rivals makeover to the extent that it collapsed immediately after launch. Such a waste. A lot of us thought they did it deliberately to kill Rivals off and direct people back to Sky's own website but apparently it was just incompetence.

A few of us banded together to launch a new network which was led by the Bristol City guy and had backing from Lansdown I think. But the tech was never right on it. I remember sitting up with the other producers until 11pm the night before the opening game of the season, at Bristol City funnily enough, waiting to hear if it would be launched in time for the season. When it did it wasn't ready, right mess. We had a ProBoard set up to tide us over around then.

Think that lasted a couple of years but we rarely, if ever, got paid even the lousy couple of hundred quid a month we were owed, and never on time. The guy then upped and disappeared overnight, taking a lot of money with him, and leaving the company with enormous debts that were then on the head of Gav the Ipswich guy who was on the hook for court cases and all sorts as a named director of the company.

He then set up Fans Network to keep TWTD, LFW, Planet Swans and a few others going and we've been here since.

This site is obviously creaking now though. Needs a redesign.

I just wanted to write match reports

I know I've had the same log-in and password since setting up on here as a fourteen year old and I'm now 38!

Me and my mate Rob (NeasdenHoop) used to bicker with each other endlessly on the site. Probably a lost history of our teenaged various dating mishaps somewhere in the archive if such a thing exists.

I remember the Beesotted game well and a member of strike force sitting down to have a er flavoured cigarette before the match had even started, half the team sprinting far quicker to the bar at half time then they ever had during the game itself and having rings run round by a semi-pro they had on their team who was an annoyingly nice guy to go along with it.

Was anyone on the QPR LIst (I think that was called) in the 90s? Involved debate....via email (!) on a private group. Think it later developed into some weird javascript chatroom or something. If memory serves, was moderated by Barbara something.

I remember Dave Mc was on it. As an ignorant youth, with literally nothing else to do but follow Rangers home and away, I opined that it was great that the Port Vale 4-4 happened in front of the true fans and not the mini-gloryhunters who only turned up away for the big matches. I then got inundated with emails (quite rightly) from irate older fans who had jobs, responsibilities, families.....:-) Oops.

I find it surprising that the messageboard format continues to survive among the social network melee of Facebook, X, Instagram, etc.

Are those of us 'of a certain age' keeping football MBs alive? Are there messageboards to be found elsewhere?

Spend a bit of time on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter and you can see the appeal here.

I've said it before, but the Reddit Championship forum is well worth visiting and time spending on it. Handful of idiots, but for the most part its outlook and style is very similar to this. Lots of humour, lots of memes, and reasonable and balanced chat from fans of all the different clubs in the league.

Facebook/Instagram and of course Twitter are cesspits, just yesterday I saw the QPR post on Facebook about the tournament Rainbow Rangers took part in at the weekend and the comments left just disgust me. I had to just close a browser down before I started arguments you're never going to get anywhere with with all the cretins posting some of the most hateful crap on it.

I've easily been reading LFW for nearly 20 years now. I briefly had a user on what must have been an old platform around 2008/09 time of "Mr Foxy" when I was struggling to fit in at university and feeling really lonely. I got set on pretty quickly by another poster at the time who thought I was a previously known Watford supporting WUM turning up to cause more havoc. I do remember Northern coming to my defence on it as he could see I was genuine and had no idea who this Watford guy was....so thanks Northern haha.

Can't remember when I set this user up - it was silent for a long time then in the last couple of years I've posted more. I try not to post too much after games, I'm generally too annoyed after I've seen us lose and don't want to lash out, or when we win I'm too pleased to worry about coming on here and going "yaaaayyyy..." or something similar.
