European matches and ticket advice please. 15:24 - Feb 11 with 845 viewsCity_boy

A few of us are looking for a weekend of beer and match at one the big European sides. Has anyone experience of this and arranged tickets in advance ? If so, how did you obtain tickets. I can see a number of sites advertising games, but have no idea how reputable they are.

Would welcome any advice or suggestions.

I have been to several matches across Europe in the past few years and have never used one of the package companies. It does depend who you want to see though. I have been to games at all of the top Spanish sides (apart from Real Madrid as I don't like them) and have bought tickets from their websites. Same when I went to watch Roma.

I've found top flight Bundealiga tickets harder to get, but have been to watch Hertha Berlin a few times and that is quite the experience. 71500 there when I went the other week, with around 25000 Hamburg fans. Plus, Berlin is an amazing city and is pretty cheap.

For Ajax tickets StWizzler and I used a ticket agency to guarantee tickets and that wasn't too pricey.

Would definitely recommend doing it, I've had some great times.

Thanks for feedback. Ironically I have been in Madrid, Seville and Amsterdam recently, and could have got tickets, but couldn't go. Sods law if I just turned up and wanted a ticket I wouldn't be able to get one !

I am looking at ticket only (not a package) from a tried/tested ticket agency.

www.livefootballtickets.com has a some top grounds at reasonable price, but again, no idea if they are reliable.

I will look at individual clubs as suggested.

Look at how many the club you are going to average, if they are not near capacity then it should be easy to get a ticket from their website or even bowl up on the day or the day before if you are there early enough

I’ve used www.livefootballtickets.com half a dozen times for tickets and can recommend them.

We thought that we had the answers, It was the questions we had wrong.

Portuguese tickets are reasonably easy to get .. If you want to see Porto at home unless it is against the 2 lisbon teams its not that difficult , they sell well but there are usually some available. IF you do want to see them then try to get a ticket for when they are away .. If up north then Boavista (also in Porto) Rio Ave (about 30km outside in Vila do Conde which has beach and some wonderful fish restaurants, as it is a fishing town) Famalicão , Moreirense are other clubs where they don´t sell out that often and are smaller grounds with 2 stands (Famalicão) or 2 plus behind 1 goal (Moreirense)
The league website can give you more details https://www.ligaportugal.pt .. and yeah its bi lingual

In the last couple of seasons I’ve done a few Italian games

I am registered with Verona as I follow them. Milan and Como I just purchased direct from the club online.
For Venezia you can pick them up from the club shop in the town.

You will need photo ID to get into the grounds out there and they check it against your name on the ticket

I went to Goztepe when we played them a couple of years ago, it is in Izmir which is on a big bay with a port, not exactly a tourist destination, but it was pleasant enough and cheap as chips back then, although inflation has made Turkey more expensive these days.

Goztepe fans seemed to like having a connection with us and made a big flag for the occassion, they should welcome you

I lived in spain for a bit and in that time did all the madrid clubs, the barcelona region clubs and zaragoza.

In the main it was incredibly easy to get tickets, most Spanish games - bar big games like derbys or tourist clubs - don't sell out and in general attendance at spanish games isn't great.

The exceptions to that are the two big clubs, Barca and Real, which is down to the huge numbers of tourists at games (if you think tourists here are an issue then it's on another level for those two), and the basque clubs which have a support much more similar to english support in terms of actually turning up to games.

If you're happy to avoid the two big clubs then you can just buy tickets direct from the club you're going to, and in a lot of cases can even do that on the day.

When i went to see Getafe i'd estimate about a third of their ground was empty and it was incredibly easy to get tickets, i just walked up on the day.

I'd also suggest you avoid the organised package tours for Spanish clubs as they're a total rip off aimed at fleecing tourists, if you're booking a hotel it's often easier just to ask the hotel to sort tickets for you.
