My neighbour got his pension increase letter today. If he lasts a bit longer he will receive an extra 25p a week.
In fact it's 20p after tax. Is there anything you can buy for 20p? I'm surprised that Keith Starmer bloke hasn't taken it away.

Yers my mum got that letter as well. Cost more to send it than it gives pensioners. At least it is 20p after tax that pensioners can use to stagger to a payphone and ring for an ambulance because they're freezing to death. Thanks Rachel Reeves, a woman who models herself on Thatcher and Harry Enfield's Tory Boy.

Never knowingly right.

A stroke of luck for Reeves, we are having one of the warmest winters on record.

A trip to a local convenience in Penzance. Honestly what a joke that amount is - I can remember my mum getting a notice of 4p in total at sometime in the long distant past, which was less than the postage it took to notify her, but I think that was because she was married and hadn't worked mostly all her life.

What pension is this in reference to?
I assume you mean the state pension.
This quoted article if from the beeb and says that from April 2025 the increase will be 4.1%

'The government has confirmed that the new full state pension will rise by £472 a year from April 2025.

The increase is pegged to wages, which have risen by 4.1%.

'Under an arrangement called the "triple lock", the state pension goes up each year by either 2.5%, inflation, or earnings growth - whichever is the highest figure.'

A few years back before he died my dad sent a letter to David Cameron asking his suggestions for what he could do with his 49p raise, my dad asked him if he thought half doughnut would suffice, he never got a reply.

Must be the over 80 allocation. Surely not worth the postage.
I know I'm set for an April increase in State Pension of £40-50. Due to the triple lock.

This amount is in addition to the 4.1% annual increase (this year) rather than the total increase they will receive.

The 25p per week is an 80th "birthday present" & was introduced by Ted Heath in 1971. Sucessive governments & chancellors have left it at that amount ever since!

In those days 5 bob would have bought you a couple of pints of light and bitter and a packet of Smiths crisps with a tanner change.

For the 6th richest country in the world (albeit by GDP which isn't good measure), the UK's pension ranks a poor 15th in Europe in terms of pensions paid out against cost of living. Nations like Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Cyprus are far more generous to their OAPs.

Some say we can't afford to pay more in pensions but the solution is simple: tax the very rich. That's where the money is to solve problems like this.

Looking at the title I thought this was about Lee Anderson coming up with cheaper meal ideas.
