What a waste of tax payer money.
I am not for one moment excusing the behaviour of Sam Kerr who has shown her true character in this whole debacle. That should be enough for her to be fined by her employer and reprimanded (if I behaved like that in a position she is in I would expect no less). She should be made to make a public apology so that young people who would otherwise look up to her realise that behaving like a spoilt brat is not something to aspire to. But Chelsea have history for backing their players no matter how disgusting their behaviour.
I would say however that the context of her choice of words, in my opinion, don't amount to a public order offence. It sounds like she was trying to imply that him being white meant he didn't comprehend her perspective of events. Again, I am not excusing her behaviour or language but seriously, that police officer surely didn't take offence that much he thought it needed to end up in court. Just have a 20 minute mediation and get an apology, job done. Instead a trial over the course of a few days for something that will probably go the same way John Terry's did all those years ago... Pathetic.
I'm sure many would disagree with me. I just think she's not worth the effort beyond an apology. |

It's a different loaded context I would say.
Again I am not excusing her choice of words but as she explained today in court she was implying that calling out his whiteness was to do with his privilege of not having been in her position and not understanding that she perceives herself as being treated differently due to her skin colour.
As much as some people disagree with that, unfortunately engrained discrimination and racism is still alive in our society so she has a point, as badly made as it was in the time of her no doubt intoxicated mind.
So calling some one black and stupid is not the same based on the above view point. In fact it is a lazy racial bias that used to be implied and even believed in our recent history so for me, it is more directly offensive.
I don't expect many people to agree with it but it is a valid point of view and is backed up by numerous social experiments, many done recently too. |  | | |

You're right about one thing - I don't agree with it. It's not a valid point of view, it's a divisive theory that sets one rule for one and another for others. It empowers some to be racist with impunity whilst calling out others for the same behaviour. All that achieves is resentment which in turn breeds more prejudice. There is no such thing as white privilege. I find the term itself deeply racist and offensive (and I'm not white).
For someone as privileged as Sam Kerr to jump on that bandwagon is both cheap and shameless. It's also lost on her that her partner is white and was being treated at the same police station, by the same officers, for the same offence in the same way. Being white, I wonder what she made of Kerr's comments?

Someone in power seriously needs to shake up modern policing - it is not fit for purpose in anyways.
People of colour are stopped and searched multiple times more than whites -that sadly is a fact of life and yes can totally understand how if she is out and dressed scruffier, she could be followed often by security. You might want that to be true, but objectively the history of dealing with authorities as a black person is different to the history of dealing with authorities as a white person. Racial hierarchies are a historical fact, and you can't separate how racism operates from that

Not exactly crime of the century though is it? Plenty of lawyers, journos etc making a quid out of covering something that seems very minor and petty. Basically a pissed person being a bit gobby.

But there’s a big difference between living in 19th century US as a black woman or 1940s Germany as a Jewish woman, to an Indian/black woman born in 1990s in Perth and living in the UK in 2025.
