Dibbling on his way to Spurs ? 22:23 - Jan 27 with 3664 viewssaintmark1976

B B C suggesting that Spurs have already had talks with Sports Republic to acquire his services.

Possible that we won’t see him in a Saints shirt again ?

I couldn’t face him signing for Boscombe.

Losing our best player to them would be the ultimate insult, and would virtually put me off football for good.

Your dislike for bournemouth is bizarre mush, they're no different to Brentford or Brighton and considerably better placed than us at the moment

It's not bizarre when I have lived 4 miles from their ground for my entire life.

Their fans are arseholes towards us.

I could take the incessant whining from them when we were lording it over them.

But their lording of it over us is very hard to take, and patronising sympathy to boot.

I couldn't face losing our best player to them.

I quite like them and think it's good to see them doing well, genuinely hope they get Europe too as it'll be a different side to the normal lot doing it.

As for their fans being arseholes when i lived that way most weren't arseholes at all and didn't really care about us, it's only the weird new soccer am generation that do.

Going back to early 80's, I had an uncle that had both a Saints and Bournemouth season ticket. He sadly passed away, many years ago, but was proud that he supported both. Admittedly, there was a big gap then between Saints and Bournemouth, but how times have changed.

I knew people doing that right up to the mid/late 90's, usually older fellas who couldn't do aways but could make Saints and Bournemouth.

Think these days Saints and Eastleigh or Saints and Sholing is more common for people that do that though.

Plus don't forget when the scores were done half time at the Dell if the skate were losing you'd get a cheer, and if the cherries were winning you'd get a cheer.

I am going to be controversial here.
How good is Dibbling?
Of course he has talent and would love for him to stay.
But like the lad that went to Chelsea if we could get a large fee, so be it.
The only problem is will we waste the money again?

Good question Grumps.
Although TD has shone in our team, that is not too difficult, currently we would make Ali Dia look good.
TD is obviously a very gifted footballer but he's far from being the finished article.
I don't think he's ready yet to hold down a regular game in any of the top six teams.
He needs games to improve certain elements of his game, so if (when) he goes he should choose very carefully to make sure he goes to a club that can guarantee him game time, but it probably won't be his decision, as we all know it's the agents that dictate where players end up.

Undoubted talent, but certainly work in progress.
Strong on the ball, with skill but often losses the ball by running into players.
Just needs good coaching.

I worked in B'muff and Poole between 1985 and 1990. A lot of those I worked with supported their local team. I can't say that they were anti Saints at all.
I do remember watching a cup match between us when they beat us at the old Dean Court and promised my colleagues that if they came to The Dell for the second leg, we woudl see matters right.
Except of course we didn't.
I thin it was a draw at our place, so we went out?

spot on! He does looks quite naive at times and isn't aware of where the opposition is and therefore gets the ball taken off him quite easily in the middle of the park I find.

For pity sake what is the matter with the doughnuts at Sports Republic ?

We finally get a prospect through the academy who is worth some decent money.

Cash in and use the money to buy some proven players to get us out of next season’s Championship is the sensible thing to do.No, Sports Republic think it a good idea to muddy the deal by taking on a Spurs reject.

Is there anything they can’t cock up ?

Exactly. Get £55m for Dibling and buy 2 proven top flight players for £25m each.

Or a 21 year old African winger playing in a mid table team in the Belgian league for £15m.

Sport Republic.
Jokers.

We thought that we had the answers, It was the questions we had wrong.

Two proven top flight players won't want to come here and play in the Championship next season unless they are so bad now that no other club wants them. At best, you'd get one with long-term injury problems and another whose last decent season was a few years ago before his lifestyle issues took their toll. £50 mill for a couple of Cornets?

To be loaned out in two seasons time with an obligation to buy for £8m.

The Sports Republic transfer strategy.

Absolutely correct, only we won’t need “ top flight “ players for next season.

We will however need “ proven” players.

There is a difference.

What we don’t want is any more “ prospect “ players who may or may not come good in the 27/28 season.

He already tried it !!

Moved to Chelsea in the summer of 2022 I believe, but couldn't settle, so returned to Saints just a couple of months later.

People seem to have forgotten about this, if they even knew.

I would have thought it will be too risky for Sports Republic to keep TD in the Championship as his value will drop, and if we don't come straight back up we will have to sell him at a lower price. He will have to go this summer I think. They will want to cash in and then they will try to find another young gem to cash in on again later.

Yes you are right, I was getting carried away there.
Maybe 3 'proven', good quality players, from the UK or abroad who would join Southampton in the Championship knowing we would be contenders for promotion.
