Leicester have won both, fairly recently too. It's no different to when Ipswich and Blackburn won the league or when Wigan beat Man City in the FA Cup Final or when Real Sociedad won La Liga or when Hellas Verona won Serie A. These things don't happen often. There are always dominant teams that usually win the trophies.

I could post a list of Scottish, Spanish, Italian, German, Dutch, Romanian etc league and cup winners from the last 20 years and you'll see that they are all dominated by a smaller number of big clubs than we are in this country. That's the way football leagues are.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Spanish_football_champions

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_German_football_champions

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Italian_football_champions

Does that mean that football fans all over the world should want their teams to give up competing at the top level or only support the biggest clubs?

I don't think fans are giving up by saying they enjoyed the Championship.
Our gates in that division have shown that.
To survive in the Premiership you have to have a lot of money backing you and more importantly wise people spending it.
This season has been one of the most depressing for Saints fans in living memory.
At the end of the day its about entertainment,I've enjoyed games at the Sports Centre more, what division do they play in?

I agree. It's good that fans are being positive. It will be great if we win the Championship and come back to the top flight stronger than ever. It's where we've been for most of my life and it's where we belong. There will be fans of clubs like Hellas Verona in Italy, Celta Vigo in Spain and hundreds of other unfashionable top flight clubs all over the world who think the same way.

For me, our most enjoyable season in recent years was 2015/16 when we finished 6th in the top flight; not 2023/24 when we finished 4th in the 2nd tier. But, if we WIN the Championship next season, then you're talking.

I think our fans have been Magnificent this season, particularly away.
Give them something to cheer and there are few better.
Things not going well and they still turn up,might moan a bit but they still support the club.

I totally agree. Considering the results we've had, our support has been exceptional, both home and away, and that's been one of the big positives this season and one of the reasons I'm looking forward to tomorrow's game.

It's simple for me. I enjoy Saints winning and being competitive in as many games as possible. We are currently very competitive and can win games in the Championship but not in the Premier League, where the players salaries ultimately determine which teams win the trophies. You might get a one off like Leicester but it's virtually impossible to develop a competitive team over a number of seasons without the best players moving on for more money. Leicester had one chance to win the league and they took it before their team was broken up by the Rich clubs.

I,ve had a look

in the last 20 years in the premier league and FA Cup, Wigan ,Skates and Leicester are the only clubs other than the big 6 that have won anything so 36 trophies have been won by the same 6/7 big clubs in England. Loads of surprises there.

Tremendous cant wait for the next 20 years. Dull as fcuking dishwater.

Respect to you, !teem, Frannie & Pat, who still support Saints all over the country. I rarely go to away games nowadays so I guess that gives me a more limited perspective. I used to like going to small northern towns, like Barnsley, Blackburn and Burnley.

Dirk ,We all support our football clubs in different ways, none of it is right or wrong. We all get peed off with different things. Like many I do go home and away, some do more aways than me because I have other things I need to do too but football is and always has been a large part of what I do .

i like many others, are so fed up with how football has become in this country. I can’t remember the last time I watched MOTD, I don’t want to hear about the rich top 6 clubs ,I don’t want to watch a repeat of us getting stuffed every week with pundits saying how poor we are so I don’t bother.

Like some have said it’s becoming a lot more about the social side , meeting your mates, having a few beers, getting up early on a Saturday and getting trains to places like Hull, Sheffield etc and Winning !! Heaven forbid lol , sometimes staying overnight, it’s part of the buzz.

I respect your in depth knowledge of the game and I enjoy reading your posts Dirk.

Cheers.

Can’t help but feel that an opportunity has been squandered, so yes, this fan would be unhappy.

Playing in any league is great if you’re not being hammered every week.

It’s when we go from a relegation battle in The Premier League to a relegation battle in The Championship.

Sad times at SFC.

We thought that we had the answers, It was the questions we had wrong.

No point being unhappy, being a Saints fan makes when you do win all the more enjoyable.
