Leicester defeat a disaster?? on 14:10 - Jan 24 with 675 views | francisbowles | Question from the devils advocate:- If you were a Coventry fan would you be happy that the run to the unlucky semi final loss last season, probably wore the squad out physically and mentally and was a huge factor in not making the play offs?

Would they have won the playoffs if they made them? If not I imagine getting to the fa cup semi final gave them memories that will last generations especially how that semi final went coming from 3 down and then nearly winning it
Leicester defeat a disaster?? on 17:26 - Jan 24 with 506 views | BrianMcCarthy | People still talk about Oldham's cup runs in 89-90. They won nothing that year, not the FA Cup (sem-final), the League Cup (final) or promotion (missed out on the playoffs by three points). Maybe the cup runs cost them a playoff spot. Maybe the cup runs improved them in the League. Maybe they wouldn't have won the playoffs anyway. But they were a joy that year, and won admiration from every club and inspired generations of their own fans along the way. You can't put a price on honour.

Similar stories with that fantastic Boro team that made both cup finals and got relegated, and with Neil Warnock's Sheff Utd. Look, with Leicester, a few of us were annoyed and disappointed. That's all. I don't recall anybody, well anybody worth listening to, using the word "disaster". It just felt like a shame. And it is a shame, imagine us going away to this Man Utd team with them playing like this and us playing like this. What a moment that could have been (not to mention something in the region of £1m to go into next season's pot).

As ever you put into words far better than I can what I feel. Disaster was never mentioned. Ongoing frustration at sacking off the cup every single year, absolutely. Wasn't even necessarily based on the one game. Wasn't even necessarily the team selection, but Marti's in-game "ah well who cares?" approach during it, just as much. And yes I am glad we won the next two games, but I will have long forgotten those in two years' time, compared to 9.000 Rangers at Old Trafford.....imagine Kolli and Morgan and Smyth against Maguire et al. It's those moments I remember from the past, rarely the league games.

To add to the devil's advocacy, there are two things that are always recently against us. The heavy fixture list just before round 3 and the size and quality of our squad. As an aside, our best recent cup cup run was under McClaren when we lost to Watford in round 5. On 3rd day we were 8th in the table. McLaren was sacked at the end of March with us in 17th. We dropped to 19th by the season end.

What's your point exactly? McClaren was a crap manager, who presided over a stunning decline in perfromances a la Warburton. As for small squads and fixture congestion, we're no different here from most, if not all, other clubs.

Leicester defeat a disaster?? on 21:16 - Jan 24 with 218 views | ManinBlack | For me on a personal level, losing 6-2 to Leicester was a dreadful result as I have several friends who support them so a lot of flak came my way. Hardly surprising as they haven't had much to crow about in the league. One reason Man City have got to so many finals in recent times is possibly due to them playing a strong team even if against Burton Albion or Salford City. They have such a good squad that they can't help but field a strong side. Quite a few times their rivals get themselves knocked out on earlier rounds fielding weakened sides aiding their cause. When you look back at our best ever side in 1976, a fabulous side to watch, it still rankles with me today that inferior teams Man City won the League cup and second division Southampton won the FA cup. We won nothing at all but plaudits but we were on a different planet to the Saints and they lifted a trophy. We managed to get knocked out of both competitions by Newcastle whom we did the double over in the league. It seems we have an aversion to cup football and don't get me started on Wembley 86...
