Harwood Bellis not good enough to play ctr back in Premier lge 17:12 - Jan 5 with 1029 viewsGRIM

Harwood Bellis is proving to be a bit of a liability, he shone in the Championship but
Is now making far too many mistakes with his positioning & defending, he's been guilty of making schoolboy errors.
He might get away with it if playing in a better team alongside better defenders than we have.
Same goes for Flynn Downes, he looked good in Championship but is far to lightweight & erratic in Premier lge.
I'm picking on these two because we spent Millions to get them in at start of season & they like most of our players just ain't good enough, albeit we might have to rely on them because we have no one better.

It was always going to be an open question as to whether these two could step up and I think that a lot of people got carried away with thinking that it was vital that we signed them up for this year.

With Downes, I was always concerned that West Ham had let him go and I did wonder whether they knew something about his PL abilities.

Likewise with Bellis. We had nothing to go on to judge whether he could step up.

FWIW I think that both of them are good enough to play at PL level but I agree that they need to work alongside better players, and they aren't good enough to carry a team at this level.

The more frustrating one is Armstrong. We knew from the last time around that his Championship form doesn't translate to PL level and yet we didn't learn from that.

The biggest disappointment, however, has been Sugawara. After encouraging signs in the first few games this season, he has turned out to be a complete liability. The penalty he gave away for Liverpool's winner was criminal, as was his header for Brentford's 5th and his complete inability to cover the right side of defence for their 2nd and 4th goals.

Couldn't agree with you more.
You get the feeling that they both think they are far too good for the Club; but their performances, probably because they want to avoid injury to keep their value up, are anything but…

Return to 4 at the back and develop a centre half pairing. We are all over the place with 5.

Agreed.
Four at the back, full backs priority must be to hold position & defend.
Four in midfield, the two wide midfielders to get up & down the pitch keeping the width on.
The two central midfielders to do holding role & cover for wide midfielders when they get forward.
Two strikers, preferably a target man ( we only have Tall Paul) playing with quick player alongside him ( has to be Archer).
This formation won't keep us up but it might stop us getting hammered every week & regain some credibility.

We didn't sign enough experience in the summer.

Well, we signed Lallana who is always injured, Fraser whose legs have gone, and Charlie Taylor who David Brent refused to pick.

We needed hardened pros like James Milner and Jonny Evans to guide our younger players.

This would have helped the likes of Harwood-Bellis to adapt to a pretty unforgiving League.

Moreover, the confidence of a lot of the youngsters was shot by the suicide football they were ordered to play by Brent the narcissist.

Juric is having to pick up the pieces of this.

Agree with all this.
But its not the modern way of playing so won’t happen.

We like Right Footed Left Wing Backs too much.

We thought that we had the answers, It was the questions we had wrong.

You're right when you say it's the modern way of playing, I would say like every thing else in life its a " Fashion".
Fashions come & go & date very quickly, so the sooner this fashion goes the better.
Let's get back to basic, simple football.
I just don't get it, left footers trying to play on the right, right footers trying to play on the left.
Expecting goalkeepers to be good with their feet, they should concentrate on keeping the ball out of the net (eg. Peter Shilton , Peter Schiechel, Gordon Banks).
False nines, we used to call them inside forwards.
Inverted full backs, what's that all about.
All this jargon is just making a very simple game extremely difficult.

Totally.
Football is a simple game played by simple people.
Don’t confuse them too much.

Apart from Fernandes - do we have anyone else in this massive squad of ours that could get a place in ANY other Premier League team?

£23 million on Harwood Bellis
£17.5 million on Flynn Downes

Good Championship players in their own right but premier league? No way.

If someone comes in to buy these two, I'd be shocked if we made a profit.

No matter how good they were last season they are never worth that much money.
