Anybody still of the opinion that it was all Russell Martin’s fault ? 17:26 - Dec 29 with 3096 viewssaintmark1976

New manager:- 3 games, 1 point from a possible 9 and only 1 goal scored.

Rather looks to me very similar form to our previous manager’s record.

I’ve said it consistently, the majority of the blame for our current league position lies with our owners and the absolute incompetent doughnuts they employ, who amongst other bizarre decisions, thought it a good idea to extend Armstrong’s contract and purchase cast off Championship and Premiership forwards to assist him.

In truth we were effectively relegated before a ball was kicked with or without Martin or the new manager.

Martin was absolutely a huge part of the reason and the current situation still is (especially the lack of fitness of the players).

Saying that SR are god awful owners and I think most probably hold Rasmus as the main issue for where we are currently.

Then of course there’s the one truth everyone knows, since losing Ings we haven’t had a capable striker, and until we fix that we have no hope of staying up.

We chucked away crucial points in home games against Leicester and Ipswich due to an inability to close out games.

Who knows where we would be if we had taken 6 points from those two games instead of 1.

That is on Martin.

As is the chucking away of goals due to tippy tappy nonsense at Newcastle, Brentford and at home to Liverpool and Chelsea.

Nick gave a pretty damning critique of Martin recently, which I wholly agree with.

The psychology of some managers should give psychologists a fairly extreme example of a particular human condition and failing. I would love to read a study if there's one out there.

Martin is a case in point. To continue to have faith - until the end - in a style that was doomed against quality players and teams does indicate narcissism and delusion of a concerning nature (especially 'concerning' for me as a Southampton FC hardcore supporter).

As Einstein said hammering away at the same idea after it has failed is a definition of insanity. But aren't we all guilty to some degree- largely because of egotism, naivety and inexperience but we've had bucket loads of that in the past few years from owners and management.

With slightly more optimism: Juric seems to be more pragmatic which is what ultimately every manager should be to survive. Pragmatism wins over persistent style and mindset, wins every time.

Blimey are we really judging Juric after 1 week and 2 narrow defeats ? We have created more in those 2 games than Martin's teams created all season. I accept that many of the team may not be good enough at this level and we are paying the price for some very poor signings, but at least we look like we can score and create chances to get something out of the game.

Martin was on some personal ego trip. Watching how his teams set up and his obsession with possession with players that weren't good enough to play that way, was all down to Martin.

It was painful to watch, just waiting for us to give a goal away from messing around with the ball at the back.

Exactly this.

Whoever said it was "all Russell Martin's fault"? No one as far as I'm aware. But most people can see that RM's tactics were disastrous. Really, for those that can't see that then there is no helping them. His suicidal defending and ridiculous slow build up was never going to work, even if we had a mid-table PL squad. It was obvious to 99% of people by the end.

No manager can turn the ship around in 2 weeks. We will be relegated - and probably in the position I predicted at the start of the season: 20th. But we now have some hope that we can start to move in the right direction. RM had 3 transfer windows to implement his approach. If we want to compare Juric with RM's record, then we need to wait until he's been backed in 3 transfer windows too.

This fan never had the opinion that it was all the manager’s fault.

he was obviously the manager that was not the answer to our problems , I wish Ivan the best of luck and hope that he is successful .

Has he been in charge a week, and two games? I think your analysis is a bit rash, even for a Saint.

I think he is making the point that we have a sh!t squad and terrible owners. Therefore, it's almost impossible for any manager. I wish Juric the best of.luck, first impressions I like him, but if Ipswich win tonight, we are down. The table looks ridiculous.

And this feeling is backed up by the fact that we sacked Ralph, Jones, Selles and nothing changed. In other words the ultimate problem, is not the manager.

Or..to put it simply - Martin is an arrogant cvnt, who in footballing terms, I utterly despise.
Clear enough?
