The three goal rule shall be observed - would help those observing the rule get back to the pub quickly if the turnstiles had revolving doors…

Is Anyone Positive About The Liverpool Game on 16:54 - Nov 22 by Centurion | In past games against Liverpool, especially at the Dell, we had passion and created a hostile atmosphere. They 'didn't like it up em', to coin a phrase and there was always a chance against Pool and Manure etc. Now Liverpool will know exactly how we are going to play and will have a very professional way of dealing with this. Can only see a comprehensive win for Liverpool. Hope Saints are not humilliated |
I really miss the Dell days - was talking to a good friend of mine who supports Man U (born & bred in Ancoats) and he was saying he remembered the days when I really looked forward to Man U & Liverpool games at The Dell and he never felt confident going down there as it was such a hostile atmosphere to play in and often difficult to get a result. Three of my top Dell days were victories against Man U (3-2 Keegan era & 6-3 when Keane got sent off) but that 4-1 win against Liverpool was probably the best 90 mins I have seen. On top of the four goals shared by Paul Rideout, Rod Wallace & Matt Le Tiss, both Rideout & Rod W hit the woodwork, Shearer could have had at least one before half time and Grobbelaar made several good saves one of which defied gravity let alone belief! Seriously, 8-1 would not have overly flattered us that day. Those were the days, just look at us now - and for that matter, what the game itself has become 35 years on from that glorious afternoon at The Dell.

The Dell could be a hostile place for away teams to play at. David Beckham said it was the ground he hated playing at the most because the crowd were so close to the pitch and really gave him some stick. Our home record against Liverpool used to be good too, at least until the mid-90s when the terraces were replaced by seats and the capacity was reduced.

Is Anyone Positive About The Liverpool Game on 23:04 - Nov 23 with 617 views | MattFinish | I think we can do it although did bang my head earlier If we can frustrate them, play with Tall Paul and actually play to his strengths, play Dibling up front our possession football could nullify their play. It would rely on Liverpool having a spectacularly bad day thinking they just have to turn up and every one of our players being up for it. It needs a massive game from the fans. Having said that we could get tonked but we can but dream COYS

Good point. We keep bringing him on and not putting crosses into the box, where he at least tries to get into goal scoring positions unlike our other strikers who hug the touchline where their incompetence in front of goal can't be exposed Seriously I think our secret weapon could be storm Bert and a cancellation through adverse weather

He's so tall that sometimes the ball hits his head and one day it just might bounce off it into the net.

Onuachu started yesterday. He was on the pitch for 52 minutes. He didn’t have one shot on goal. This farce needs to end. He just is not good enough for this league.

Bit harsh Wiz. He was actually quite useful with his feet. Granted he didn't get in the box more and use his head but maybe that was the game plan. God forbid saints use the player's own strengths

Cant believe that you're belittling Onuachu yesterday. He literally ran himself into the ground. The problem we have is not on the pitch its off it.
Is Anyone Positive About The Liverpool Game on 09:00 - Nov 25 with 190 views | dirk_doone | I don't think he's a 90-minute player at this level, but he played the best 45 minutes of his entire Saints career yesterday. Admittedly, he never really looked like scoring, but he showed a lot of skill that we'd never seen from him before, and he was definitely one of our best players in the first half. I remember when we played Liverpool at St Mary's last year and drew 4-4: Sulemana was superb, ran their defence ragged and scored 2 goals, but we've seen little of him since. On a positive note, it was an entertaining game yesterday, and, if not for the usual silly passing in our own penalty area, we'd have at least got a draw, like we did the last time. If somebody could just instruct our players never to pass the ball inside our own penalty area, we would concede far fewer goals and get a lot more points. Just get the ball away out of the danger zone. It's so bloody obvious. One other thing: our players need to be told to face the opposition's goal after they get the ball, not ours. So many times, a Saints player gets the ball and then immediately turns round to face our goal and look for a backwards pass instead of looking where he should be looking, which is at the opposition's goal. I know that passing the ball backwards is the easy option, but it's also a pointless option if you want to win football games. At least Tyler Dibling seems to understand that. Dirk,Onuachu cant run about for 90 minutes the way we play. Players his size do not charge about like midfielders and that is where he spent most of his time. Too many players have been messed about by Martin yet some think its down to just the players not being good enough.

He did everything that could be asked of him in those circumstances. He played well. To see him score goals you need to give him chances, just like any centre forward. RM, like Selles, only believes in crosses if our players in the box are all below 5'6", so we will probably never see him used properly. He may not have the all round game to be a top level PL player, but he has shown that he has enough game to do a job for us if he was given the chance. With the limited options we have, he deserves to be played and used properly. He will leave here a frustrated man and go and score lots of goals for another club. He could probably score in any league in the world, including the PL, if he was given the right service.
