Kemi Badenoch wins Conservative Party leadership contest ... on 14:40 - Nov 4 by raynor94 | There we are then, as I posted on another thread if the assisted dying bill gets passed that should cut the pension by a bit. It's a pity as much scrutiny isn't paid to the welfare bill, I'm sure a lot more effort could be put in to get the perennial work shy into employment. Out of interest what do you suggest the increase in the old age pension should be |
Linked to inflation and not the highest of three measures. That's daft. Or perhaps similar to a public sector pay award? An awful lot more scrutiny should be given to the welfare bill, it's my biggest bugbear. Nobody should be wealthy on benefits, but too many people are. For the record - I don't consider the pension to be a benefit, even though thats technically what it is. It's earned and deserved by most people.

The UK state pension was the poor man of Europe though. The triple lock has meant the pensioners can actually afford to live now, almondfinancial.co.uk/pension-breakeven-index-how-does-the-uk-state-pension-compare-to-the-rest-of-europe/ Percentage pay rises are my bugbear, when higher earners get 5% it's a lot more than 10% to a minimum wage and it has meant the gap between workers has increased a lot. Our son is 16 now, we have been looking into starting a pension fund for him because the state pension is getting to be an Albatross around the countries neck and one day may be unaffordable. If I live another 20 years I will happily put a fixed amount in his fund every month, even when he's started work and he's paying in himself. It's the only way to ensure financial security in his old age.

Kemi Badenoch wins Conservative Party leadership contest ... on 13:58 - Nov 4 by Scotia | It's not only about cash either. Personally if/when I get to pensionable age I'd like to think if I need an ambulance one will turn up before I die. At the moment that's not very likely. |
I've been in the unenviable position of needing an ambulance 3 times for relatives in the last 6 weeks, 6hr wait, 8hr wait and 5hr wait. The wait was too long for 1 unfortunately. It's an absolute national scandal and disgrace and every politician should hang their heads in shame because I condemn every single 1 of you.

Shocking What also gets up my nose is the misuse of the system by drunk or drugged jerks

Earlier in the year I had to ring for an ambulance at about 10.00pm after my wife had a bleed following earlier surgery. I was told that there was no chance of an ambulance until morning and that I should drive my wife in myself. Once in A&E at Morriston she got into the treatment area fairly quickly, but not to the Surgical Assessment Unit until about 4.00am and a ward an hour later. There were several ambulances outside at A&E, not all of which seemed to be occupied.

I have friends who are paramedics. I'm fortunate to live a five minute drive from Morriston hospital. Should I need an ambulance they've advised me not even to ring 999 but to bundle whoever needs help in the car go to A&E and say I think they're about to die when I get there. Something needs to happen. An increase in taxes, a reduction in spend, an increase in efficiency. The lot. Personally I don't think it's fair that a state pension can increase by a cumulative 22% in 3 years when somebody spending their working day looking after those receiving it getting nowhere near that is fair. The public sector deserve their pay rise in the main. I'm not a labour supporter, but the situation they've inherited is diabolical and down to the Tories. They have to make hard choices, if they make some improvement great if not then vote them out. Let's be honest though it's going to take years, probably 3 election cycles to see a noticeable improvement.

The Tories have left a scorched earth Britain after 14 years, yet some think that this govt after just 4 months should have cleared up the mess already.

You have a point. However after four months the burden for the public has increased and not decreased. Labour had all the answers in opposition now it appears that for 14 years they weren’t paying attention to the public finances.

It is true that most of the impact will be indirect and some way down the line. I was trying to think what is likely to hit me in the next year. Some candidates: Frozen income tax thresholds will cost me quite a lot after April. Vehicle excise duty will rise significantly, given big car. Air passenger duty - am likely to do at least two long haul trips. Others, albeit not me, may be hit by rising tobacco taxes, increase on cap on bus fares (possibly just England), Stamp Duty, IHT and CGT. Latter may affect private landlords, such as CJ, who may still consider themselves working people.

Labour have ways been great as protesting, not liking or being anti everything. And as history has often proven, they cannot deliver when it’s positive, only beforehand when it’s negative. They are composed of too much hate now, too much emphasis on victims, chopped off dangley’s and fighting causes that the average person thinks nothing of. Guided by Abacus Abbot the most evil politician of our time, people too scared to say what they actually think of her. Nobody should trust this lot no more than the last. They thrive on stating what is wrong and have no idea how to correct it. In other terms, they know what to do, but they don’t know how to do it.
