Personally, I found that completely bewildering and professionally unacceptable from Cifuentes. Assuming Dembele, Fox and Kolli weren't all injured - though who knows these days when a reported blackhead could keep any one of our players out for weeks - if I were the board, I'd be having a word on Monday morning. That was a load of turd!

If you go out at a fans forum and say we're just swimming in options, nothing more to it than that with Kolli, and then a month later your manager is registering some 24-year-old nobody as a second goalkeeper to make a full bench at Burnley away... people are going to notice that.

If you have players struggling after training on Friday morning then you take extra in case .

Why have we taken a keeper on loan.
We have signed a decent keeper in Nardi, Walsh looks to be decent and we have Murphy loaned out and he has not disappointed previously when called upon. Some say the development keeper Salamon has potential too.
What a waste of money.
But he must have been superb in training. On the bench from day one.
The loan makes zero sense in a position currently we ok for...
I did not agree with Clive about announcement of contract lengths etc but weird choices are happening and with no one saying anything it's beginning to look like a cover up.

If you named a short bench and then your keeper gets injured in the warm up or in the first minute and you have to make a change, you are starting to think what if and why didn't we?

I heard his name some time back as well, Oslo, I think when Salamon was injured.
I've no problem with this as you need a certain amount of goalies for training, if nothing else.

Turns out the medical team were wrong and neither player were fit enough.

1) Why did Shepherd travel in the first place? At best, in case Walsh or Nardi got injured in the warm up.
Neither did. So why was he included on the bench with zero chance of playing? We don’t need to fill the bench and occasionally don’t.
2) Two outfield players were 100% fit on Friday (no cover needed to travel at all, in case one didn’t feel right on the day…). But then on the day further tests were done and neither were fit enough to even be named on the bench. Why were they doing further Tests? Because they weren’t 100% fit to play. They don’t do Tests on every player on the match day. They knew they were doubts. Doesn’t say much for the Physios and club doctor that their diagnosis was so wrong 24 hrs earlier if they thought they were 100% likely to play.
Ultimately, there was no need for a 2nd keeper to be named on the bench. And there was an obvious, common sense need to take a spare outfield player from the EDS just in case one of those two didn’t pass the matchday tests planned.
We didn’t do the latter and we did do the former.

You are presuming that the physio's were looking or testing Fox & Dembele, perhaps the players themselves said they were struggling at or after the final training session which may have been a lot closer to match conditions........and, hence, were not selected.

1) Manchester City named 2 keepers on the bench on Saturday: these were part of a total of 7 subs out of 9 possible. I’m sure Man City fans are not analysing the hell out of that like we are.
2) Fox and Dembele were not 100% before travelling but Cifuentes says he was told both would be fine for match day which turned out to be incorrect. Even if ONE of them turned out to ok then problem solved as he would’ve been on the bench instead of extra keeper and this storm in a teacup wouldn’t have happened at all.
Don’t think there’s a ‘message’ at all apart from the medical team needing to raise their game. | | | |
