Just looking on the Chesterfield ticketing website, by my reckoning there are 155 tickets already sold in the away end! Looking forward to it.

Will our defence be terrified, or will they extinguish Will Griggs. Either way, he will still be the subject of probably the best football chant ever.

Never mind the result we just need true grit and a never give up attitude. Injuries will not last forever and anything from tonight will be a bonus.

It means nothing if we fail to beat Salford on Saturday.

A 1 - 1 draw at Chesterfield is commendable.

The corner stats were -

Chesterfield Seventeen
Colchester Nil

I can't recall Colchester getting a draw from those stats in many years.- if ever.

I disagree, that result (and performance) means everything to the U's squad after Saturday. Yes, we need to follow it up against Salford, but let's not overlook what a solid effort it was.

Good point we will take anything we can get our hands on!! But if that wasn’t national league level I’ll eat my hat. I mean we are inept at keeping the ball, our first touch is in a diff postcode most of the time, we have no build up play or pattern.

If that’s what 8 months of coaching looks like and multiple players that you’ve personally sourced I’d hang my head…

We did get dicked on.. but bottom line is we got the all important point.

We must have been watching a different game in that case?

It's about time all EFL grounds were able to have VAR installed to put a stop to these appalling offside decisions.

Last night was a classic case. The TV angle was inconclusive but there was a conflab between ref and his assistant. The Colchester players were incensed as was the birthday boy.

VAR may have its flaws but it would have cleared up whether Grigg was offside or not.

Now we simply have to defeat the Ammies on Saturday to start a consistent run of results.

I for one am sick and tired of the label "struggling Colchester" and the biased commentators. Last night he was willing Chesterfield to get the winner.

Edwards and Tovide were big misses and Arthur Read has clearly fallen out with DC or walked under several ladders or run over several black cats.

Oscar Thorn was a revelation and I look forward to seeing him on Saturday.

I'm not Anderson's biggest fan but his last minute block was absolutely brilliant last night.

I think our version of football must be very different then.

We got the draw but you could hardly say it was even on football terms. We did not look comfortable or good by any stretch of the imagination. Again a points a point will help the cause. But if that the football we will playing then we should bring a pillow when watching.

Definitely not even in terms of possession of the ball, attempts etc., but I thought we were good value for the point. We kept our shape well, dealt with most of their threat resolutely and carried a definite threat of our own going forward (I thought Oscar Thorn was excellent). After the horror show on Saturday, we needed that, but I’m not going to deny Chesterfield were the better side.

DK post match interview states line person had flagged Chesterfield goal has offside, which looks correct .

Thorn did capitalise on huge error from the chesterfield left back and 100% did all he could with the assist. He had a solid game….. I’d not say any Colchester player played excellent in the context of actual football terms.

Our expectations have dwindled so much as a club and fans… anyone with half a yard of pace and any fire in their belly we are calling good now.

Evidently the goal was given as Grigg convinced the officials that he didn't touch the ball so it didn't matter that he was offside. He's since been credited with the goal. You couldn't make it up. Another piece of bad luck and decision that's gone against us.

Everybody calls for Hunt to be dropped (including me), but the goal came from great vision and a perfect ball from....... erm Number 19. You could say that Thorn and Payne had the easy bit, thanks to him.

Had he not need playing, the goal probbably wouldn't of happened etc. etc. ...and it wasn't the only time he did it.

VAR is the creation of Beelzebub on a day when his haemorrhoids were playing up.

Along with 10 second half subsitutions, it has no place in what used to be a game.

It can be hard enough watching the U's for 95 mins, I don't want to be there all day/night.

'Fans' of Premiership clubs spend all their time arguing about VAR being wrong instead of the ref being wrong.

We had a distinct plan that was well executed. Our attacking prowess was almost zero with the absence of Tovide, Edwards etc, so we lined up 5, 5, 0 leaving Taylor on the bench.

Even if the home side had 100% possession when its 98% in front of ten men it is inconsequential. Reminded me of the 300 Spartans, they shall not pass us (and pass only between each other). Before the match we were told by Chesterfield fans that they struggle to break down teams that play a back five, with a midfield three, let alone against a five and midfield five, and true to that ethos, most of their shots were inconsequential from outside the box. DC had done his homework.

Chesterfield played wonderful passing football, but with almost zero penetration. Reminded me of Col U under Ben Garner. Pitty pat footie with little bite. We made by far the better chances and Macey was hardly troubled despite the statistics. When they hit the bar, it was Hopper that cleared it off the line. Ten defenders, a perfectly legitimate tactic against a top team. Proving hard to beat must be our first step towards enlightenment.

Very well said.
And sometimes even well set up and analysed we'll still lose but we're a poor side at the moment and the job to improve is long term.
I always felt this would seem like a long season and so it's proving but turning this sick juggernaut around was always very long term with who knew what within that process.

The odd win here and there will do wonders for them and I can only applaud the wonderful effort of our supporters who are travelling away in greater numbers and turning up at home likewise. I'm sure the players appreciate this.

Keep executing those plans and get fully stuck in and we'll be mid table by Easter!!

Up the U's and their support!
