Once Kane went off, we weren't going to score again. Had he stayed on, he'd probably have got a hat-trick.

Lille. Jose Fonte was his first captain there.

England V Finland on 08:49 - Sep 11 with 880 views | PatfromPoole | A large proportion of the fans come from the North, but a lot of them left at half-time to get the last train back from Euston. A lot of fans don't even bother going in the ground for games like this. They buy the tickets, scan the tickets at the turnstiles and then go back to the pub. The crucial bit is that by doing this they get the two ESTC caps in their name which helps for priority for in-demand away games and the final stages of tournaments. I do feel they should be taking England games on tour as pretty much every other country do. However, no other country in the world gets crowds like England do for meaningless games. The FA are fully aware of this, and pocket the most money they can by playing the games at Wembley.

I go to a lot of England games at Wembley and I'd say the fans, outside of the Club Wembley section, are no posher than at any league ground. There always seem to be a lot of Spurs fans there and 50% of their vocabulary begins with the letter F, plus all the northern lads behind the goal in the home end. You're right about families though. You see a lot more women and children than at league games. But last night was a paper aeroplane game, of which there are many, when the atmosphere is almost non-existent and the loudest cheer is reserved for the paper aeroplane that lands nearest to the centre circle. Perhaps I'm biased but one of the best atmospheres was at the England v Scotland game when Rickie Lambert scored the wnning goal.

Any game against Scotland, Germany or Argentina will have a fantastic atmosphere. But the rest are pretty much non-events at Wembley. I went to the Nations League 3-3 draw against Germany at Wembley a couple of years ago, and the noise when we went 3-2 up near the end was as good as I have heard there; until Nick Pope threw one in just afterwards......

You must be thinking of Lionesses games. The men’s team will never have a significant posh families following.

For some reason I decided to watch it last night and every time the camera panned round to the fans it was just kids and mums, I couldn’t give a sh!t really so I’ll shut up. Looking forward to getting back to St Mary’s.
