I went to the top of one of the towers once. They had it set up so that once you got on the escalator to the platform there's no turning back, you had to go around the circuit to come back down, the cruel bastards. Even though you're far enough from the edge that it would take an olympic standard long jump to get over it and into the safety netting, I was terrified.
When I left for NY in '99 I worked as a job coach for the first 18 months, for people with learning disabilities. It was a really enjoyable, stress free job.
Anyway one of the people I job coached worked in the Sbarros pizza on the observation deck of the WTC. Visited him every 2 weeks or so to see how he was doing, talk to his manager etc.
It was a right pain in the balls getting through security but once I'd got up there and seen him I was free to wander around, so Id head up the escalator and sit on the roof. Staring at the mast on the other tower always instantly gave me vertigo but other than that it was great - was hardly lucrative but one of those jobs you know you'll never have again.
My client there was supposed to be working on 9/11 but had gone to look at a residence he was hoping to move into. Didn't tell his mum who thought he was at work! I still remember his co workers though, and his manager, John.

Assuming the link was about QPR when I first saw it earlier and the link didn’t work I googled QPR 31st August 1974. This brought up the fact that we played away to Luton Town that day with the result being 1-1. 50 years later…….
