A dark forest 08:33 - Aug 25 with 773 viewssaint901

As I said in my post about the Newcastle game, it's going to be easy to find some negatives so I'll try to stay balanced.

The reality is that Forest were not much better than us but they have learned that their players are comfortable with a more direct attacking approach and will try something in two passes that we would need five or six to do.

Their defensive style was all about shape and working hard and this early in the season it works because they're all fit and have trained together for weeks. It's also helped by our playing passes sideways and not forward.

We have one player at PL level - KWP. RM needs to look at all the others.

I think Downes is PL level,he was doing his best to break up Newcastle's play yesterday.
Dibling looks a promising talent.
Of the rest its more down to tactics than inadequacies.
Martin lost that game yesterday,Forest were not much better than us,just had a better approach.

Sugawara and Dibling are Premier League level too. They show real class. Charlie Taylor doesn't look out of place at this level either, as you'd expect from someone who's played more than 160 Premier League games.

Forest have spent big and bought some good players. Like most smaller clubs though, they couldn't afford a top class striker. Chris Wood is about Che Adams standard and so, in spite of all their chances, they didn't look much more like scoring than we did. Of course, we don't have a striker at all so we never look like scoring. The plan seemed to be to hold out for a 0-0 draw.

Forest players who impressed:

Milenković, an absolute steal at £12 million from Fiorentina this summer. He wouldn't look out of place in a top 6 team.

Neco Williams, £17 million from Liverpool and worth every penny.

Anthony Elanga. The Swedish international forward cost them just £15 million from Man United. I'd certainly rather have him in our team than Cameron Archer, who cost us more than that.

Ibrahim Sangaré, did everything you'd want from a PL defensive midfielder and totally blotted out our midfield. He cost £30 million from PSG and would easily slot in to a top 6 team in the Premier League.

Morgan Gibbs-White, £25 million from Wolves. Until Tyler Dibling came on, he was better than any midfielder we had, which probably shows how much Dibling is going to be worth in future.

Ola Aina. What a surprise the little fella in the baggy shorts was. He showed great pace and skill, rampaging down Forest's left flank. They got this former Chelsea youngster on a free from Torino. Whether he's always this good, I don't know.

The list goes on.

So, although, like us, Forest lacked a cutting edge, they've built a team that will stay up.
