Paul Waugh amongst the shortlist of three candidates. Hope it's him seeing as he's a daley. One of the others is a Burnley supporter and the other a Wigan councillor so common sense would say he's the prime choice

Yeah I know I didn't say she was a 'he'. But let's have a local person representing us. I believe it could go the way of the Burnley fan though

Says he's a big Burnley fan so can't see him giving us at the Dale much help if voted in.

Should get him to make some sort of pledge to back Dale if he’s elected.
He might think it’s a vote winner!
Just noticed that his profile picture on Twitter is of him and Keir Starmer holding a Burnley shirt….

George Galloway has just announced that he’s going to stand. This could become a real toxic circus of an election.

Probably counted against Paul Waugh that he’s not a Starmer yes-man as he’s been critical of Labour’s policies (or lack of) in his “i” column 😔

You're not wrong. Could get proper ugly.

One plus is that the Town Hall restoration, (which from the pics and vids looks spectacular), is gonna get a good slice of free publicity.

Loving his message of lets send a clear message to Sunak. Obviously doesn't know that Rochdale hasn't had a Conservative MP since the 50s.

Is Rochdale one of the constituencies that is going to be subject to a boundary change?

James there are not many constituencies that haven’t seen some changes, so would imagine it has had some, but I am not sure they come in until a general election is called. Happy to be corrected.
George Galloway is a strange character. I really hope he doesn’t stir things up in the by election. His actions in Batley & Spen were really unedifying. Can’t help wonder if Labour chose this candidate with the expectation that Galloway would rock up. In Batley the candidate was the sister of Jo Cox and they went for the jugular.

They’re under starter’s orders as the writ has been moved this afternoon and election day set for Thursday 29th February.

An opportunity for the club to set out our stall for the candidates. No doubt, as I type, SG is getting in touch with them all to arrange briefing meetings. 👍

I see our old MP Simon Danczuk has joined the Reform party and he's standing in the Rochdale by election .

There aren’t many Tory votes to steal historically so it looks like Ali, Galloway and Danczuk will be fighting over the Labour vote.
Topically Danczuk has recently married a Rwandan woman and seems to spend a bit of time there.

I spotted the Labour candidate at Spotland yesterday and he turned up at Hornets’ match this afternoon as well.
Whether or not he returns again for either code remains to be seen now he’s had his photo opportunities.

Well predicted, but what should be happening to help save the club.

“Mr Gauge used the opportunity to highlight the fantastic contribution that the Football Club makes to the local community and economy, but also to warn of the severe financial difficulties the Club face in the short and long-term.”

There’s nothing that focuses politicians local and national like a forthcoming by-election.

Where are the local Labour council on the Fan-Led review?
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/fan-led-review-of-football-governance

If you look up the road at Oldham at the millions being pumped into sport in Oldham then why can’t Rochdale Council support both sporting codes in the town?

And what happens to all of that if George Galloway wins the by-election?

Credit to SG for taking this initiative. Engaging with local politicians - of all persuasions - is key to securing the clubs place and status in the town.
