He would definitely command the respect of the players and have a better chance than Marsch of keeping us up. His record when he took over at Villa was better than Marsch's at Leeds and if repeated here would be good enough to keep us up. He won 4 of his first 6 games at Villa and took them from 16th to 14th in his first season while Marsch took Leeds from 16th to 17th. |  |

I looked at what leeds fans were saying and Marsch just looks to be another red bull clone playing the same way. All the same issues weve seen this season also have been played out at elland road. Many of their fans expected Marsch to be sacked pre world cup last November, but he got a win at Anfield which stopped that.

The problem we have is that we will probably go down anyway. If we could guarantee a manager keeps us up, it would definitely be worth it but we are likely to go down. Saints are paying off Ralph, paying off Jones and can't afford to have to pay off the next manager too, especially if we go down. Managers want 3 year contracts, Saints want to be cautious as worse times could be ahead. It's turned into a difficult mess. [Post edited 16 Feb 2023 0:33]

The first thing Pochettino did was double the training time. The players were transformed in weeks.
We're lucky, we didn't get stuck with Marsch, because from the sound of it, the players became less fit after he took over at Leeds.
The most successful managers are usually the hardest working ones, who are prepared to put the long hours in themselves. I think Fonte will make a very good manager one day. He trained harder than anyone, which is why he is still playing. [Post edited 16 Feb 2023 9:03]

Oh dear, this is getting silly now. I actually thought Sport Republic knew what they were doing by considering Marsch, who would have been a reasonable mid to long-term appointment, got the team playing attractive football again and given us half a chance of bouncing back from the Championship next season. But no manager worth his salt is going to accept such a short-term offer: taking on a task they are almost bound to fail at, with the prospect of being unemployed in six months with a relegation added to their CV. I can only think SR are living in some kind of dream world where we grab three or four quick wins and end up in mid-table. Wake up and small the coffee, guys - relegation is happening! If you're looking for a sticking plaster / rescue act you need to call Sam Allardyce or Harry Redknapp, who might do it for the crack and some extra retirement spending money.
On the plus side, Selles will hopefully now get the job until the season, which is probably what should have happened in the first place. From what I gather he is well-respected, the players seem to like him and for him it's a shot to nothing - it won't be down to him if we go down but if he can turn things around he can make a name for himself so has lots to gain and nothing to lose. | | | |

It's pretty damning that he worked his way through the Red Bull franchise but when he reached their highest level at Leipzig, he got found out and they sacked him after a few months. (The Peter Principle).
He'd probably be better sticking to North America or one of the smaller European leagues. Like Jones, he's not cut out for the top level. | |
