I know there's a few of us on here. Would be interesting to know what you're up to (as opposed to this just being a lot of youtube vids of good guitarists).
What guitars do you have? What style do you play? How do you practice?

This might help, btw I went to a 'workshop' thingy at a guitar store In Newbury yonks ago and Albert Lee was there.
AL at Norms Rare Guitars.
'Preciate it Ted….I'll check that out. I remember Albert saying some people might think that pedal is “cheating” but if you play one bum note the whole thing falls apart ! Edit..he's quite something is he not ?!! I saw Hank Wangford at the Half Moon in Putney and his gittar player Andy Roberts used that delay. There's a band called Highway 101 whose guitarist achieves the glassiest Strat sound I've heard.

I'm not into Country at all but Albert's playing is so tasty. He's on another level.

Anyone on here got an SG? I picked up an Epiphone standard cherry 60's SG and it was beautiful. Always resisted them for some reason as I'm not keen on the shape.Anyone else play a different model.?

My first proper guitar in the late 60s was an SG from a shop ( Bell's ), in Ewell Surrey. I got a green bus ,anyone remember them ? on a Saturday morning from Hammersmith. I'd had a skinful the night before so had to get off at Tolworth to spew up. Got the SG home and didn't like it at all. Phoned the shop and they said bring it back and swap for a 335. Much better, had it for years. Eventually traded it in for a lovely old Strat at TW Music in Fulham

I had a Cherry Red Gibson SG Tribute I purchased brand new last year for £999.00. They are the base model USA made SG, I cant tell a lie I never really got on with It and I sold It earlier this year. Nothing wrong with the guitar, playability was fine It was just me I had a 'silly moment' In the shop and bought It. I'm not a great fan of Gibson guitars (love the history though) back In the 90's I had a Gibson Les Paul Classic fitted with 57 PAF's that sounded Incredible but weighed a ton and was subsequently P/Xd against a Fender Custom Shop Heavy Relic Telecaster, (I just couldnt help myself). That Fender Custom Shop Heavy Relic Telecaster was loaned by me to a guitarist that I knew and has been used since in a few recordings, he hassled me until I agreed to sell It to him.
Expensive hobby BTW.

Hey Ted, that's interesting cause I had a Epiphone Les Paul classic that played beautifully but again was too heavy. Thanks for the SG Story. What's your go to guitar now?

Lovely story. They do seem to be an acquired taste.

Any ageing muso help me with this ? My wife was watching TV and I was doing the crossword and having a beer as per usual. Mention was made on TV of a majorette. Immediately a song came into what I call my mind. I think it was 70s, probably English and a line in the chorus was “she's a majorette” with the singer's voice lifting sharply to utter “majorette” I can't get it out of my head. Nothing on Google.

I bought a guitar in April 2023, a smart one. It's an acoustic that has a screen built in and it does all sorts of effects, pre-made loops and it has a looper built in too. I thought I'd use it tons for jazz stuff. Lay down a 2-5-1 and then solo over it sort of thing.
But in all that time I probably picked it up like 10 times. It was going to be my garden guitar but we've not had much of a summer. And while I'm still trying to figure out jazz, I'm not really playing along with things and am instead just trying to get to the root of all the theory stuff.
So I lashed it on eBay. Lucky guy got himself a fking bargain there as I took a 50% hit on it. But fk it.

I've never had an acoustic guitar but inspired by various Kaki King tracks I like I have been teaching myself some fingerstyle techniques and playing them on my electric guitar. I set my amp to a country style tone.
Maybe I will buy an acoustic one day but I have short arms and don't like having to manhandle the big soundbox.
I've never tried a loop pedal, but I bet they're fun. A band I like, Russian Circles, uses them a lot.

I finally made a decision to relegate a guitar. By that I mean it's the one going into D Standard tuning which I'll only use to learn a few Killing Joke songs on. It will no longer be my main noodling guitar.
Quite interesting learning KJ stuff. Geordie's riffs were either SUPER AMAZING or really bland. There's no middle ground.
Currently tying my fingers into knots trying to learn The Gathering.

I'm going to go guitar shopping and try out a Gretsch I think.
Not one of the stupid expensive ones but somewhere in the 500-700 range (which is double what I like to pay for guitars). I'm about to turn FIFTY though so I might treat myself.
Or I might hate it.
Are Bigsbys any good? Do they stay in tune or are they a ballache?

They can add weight to a guitar, and make a string change a bit more fiddly, with the chances of scratching the finish while threading a new string in. --I think you can use a block to help with this, I've seen people use a bit of painters tape to hold it in place.
As long as the nut is well cut and lubricated I don't think tuning is an issue

Apologies if this is a Spackman but can anyone steer me in the direction of a good beginners triad tutorial? All the ones on YouTube seem to contradict each other which is really confusing. I kind of get the concept but just need a good starting point and solid foundation to put it into practice… Muchas Gracias in advance 👍
