CRY ‘GOD FOR HARRY (KANE), ENGLAND, AND SAINT GEORGE!

Prediction: England to struggle against Mbappe but have enough to defeat the other 10 players.

3-1 win.

Easy to be wise after the event but Kane should have done what Messi did, roll the penalty the other way.
I also remember years ago someone saying the same player shouldn’t take two pens. The record was secondary to keeping England in the game even if Kane is the top pen taker. There are others.

Overall I thought we did ok. Not so good first half but much better in the second. France were niggly throughout and the ref didn’t help, seemed to be reffing by percentages.

Fine margins in a tight game.

Why did he take Saka off? Awful decision.

Agree. The most relieved person in the stadium was Hernandez. He was crapping himself every time Saka went near him.

Once again a glorious defeat. Best stick to fighting wars against the French.
On a serious note at least we are a team that is still developing and growing and gaining experience. I don’t think that there is another country in the world for the next 10 years that will have a better central midfield pairing than Rice and Bellingham. We will triumph sooner rather than later.

Two penalties and we still lose, hardly the refs fault.

Definitely did better than we have done in previous big final round matches and not helped by the referee who didn't really seem to see exactly what was going on with Saka. Definite improvement under GS but he still needs to be less predictable. His substitutions were totally predictable and didn't really take us to another level.

Eish sickening, I thought we were the better team overall but France did what matters and scored two good goals. Kane's penalty...

The referee was absolute rubbish but VAR gave us the chance and we blew it sadly.

Morocco or Croatia please.

Going a bit OTT on ITV there. England beat Iran, Wales and Senegal. They couldn't beat the US or France, who are missing several first-team players.

No we won't. England failures are like death and taxes. We neve looked like scoring from open play despite good possession. Lloris between the post's was a big difference for me too. We would eventually have fecked it up in a pen shoot out anyway. France should win it now.

There are no guarantees in knock-out football; the margins are so fine. Hard not to see this as a huge opportunity missed as it's so open - Morocco are surely going to be broken down eventually; Croatia are immense but beatable; and Argentina solid but nothing special.

We just come up short against elite teams in the knockout stage. You can't miss a golden opportunity with 2nd penalty and expect to go through. A missed chance all round this game, too slow to get into it and find yourself one down. Still not too downhearted, France are a very good team, they just delivered at the right time we didn't.

That ref looked like Keith Stroud reffing a Bournemouth game. Only decision he got right was the Sako penalty which was so blatant he had no choice but to award.

No foul given in the build up to the first French goal.
Didn't see the tackle on Kane that was a penalty.
'Missed' numerous fouls on Sako.
Bottled giving Griezmann as second yellow.
Had to be told by VAR about the penalty push.
Bottled sending the defender off for denying a goal scoring opportunity with the foul.

I agree but we should be as good as those other big nations given that amount of money we have rolling around our Premier League. We are getting there but we should be doing as well as the English cricket team.

Meh. England lost that in the first half. No disgrace in losing to the world champions compared to some of the sh@t shows in previous years.
How many chances did we actually create apart from the penalties? France v Argentina final then. Role on tomorrow U Rs!

The difference is that there are far fewer nations playing cricket at that level, and three of them (India, England and Oz) have most of the money. Always going to be harder in the truly global sport - even when the big hitters fail there's a Croatia or Uruguay punching ridiculously higher above their level.

Griezman barely touched the player, no way that was a second yellow. Too much of this today where people want every foul to be a yellow card. His cross for the winner was quality. As for the penalty incident it was not a sending off offence because Mount did not have control of the ball so the yellow card was right.

I accept the ref appeared to favour France but I felt it was the same last night with the ref favouring Argentina.

The stats actually look good for us. But there’s only ever on that counts and that’s the final score.

England / France
Possession: 57% / 43%

I think England were marginally the better team on the night but France, even with all their injuries, had too much quality. They eked that game out but always looked like they had another gear and could score one more goal if needed.

i mean, they really didn't look like they had another gear. Very, very fortunate to win that game. We played Mbappe really well and they panicked at the back. Could have had 3 or 4 pens.
thought we played well second half, substitutions were absolutely baffling, and putting on Sterling - off form, hasn't trained and out the country, before a red hot Rashford was maybe one of the weirdest (being kind) subs I've ever seen - and that's before you ask why on earth you'd take Saka off. But really it's the penalty. Shame. But who wants to win this nakedly corrupt tournament anyway. We'll win it in America ;)

Bare bones.

England made quite a few chances actually. Loris made more saves than Pickford

It's being so happy that keeps me going.
