He seems to be moving on after the season ends.

As iconic as he’s been he’ll be thirty six at season’s end.

An idea isn't responsible for those who believe in it.

This.

He has been a great club player for a very long time (never quite did it at International level which is why I rate Ronaldo a bit better) and he is defintely still a great player but time is against him.

Will anybody pay him the wages he may demand? I think only somebody silly would and I said the same when Ronaldo went back to the mancs, for that money they could have had 3 very good players.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

That said it wouldn’t be too difficult to imagine Newcastle going in for him.

Now you say it, yes, agreed. They have oil money now and if the owners behave like the Man City fella then they will undoubtedly sign big players so even at 36 he is still big enough to be a massive signing for them.

What will he contribute if he turns out to not cut it in the EPL? Well several thousand shirt sales, great mechandising signing if nothing else I guess but that depends on his wages.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Yes but look further back, they broke FFP, they had a dodgy sponsorship deal and were punsihed for it. Even if that punishment was reduced.

What was their financial situation excluding transfers?

I have no idea where this myth came from that Messi never quite did it at international level. If 90 goals and a golden ball award and a World Cup final and victory in copa America “isn’t quite doing it” then the bar is set quite high.

You’re right, Messi’s stats are impressive. But he will always be compared to Maradona who galvanized an ordinary Argentina side to win the 86 World Cup, and Ronaldo who similarly galvanized Portugal to with the Euros. In my view, while Messi has obviously individually contributed a lot to Argentina, he has never really made the team more than the sum of its parts, unlike to other two. So the others edge him in my opinion.

I’d say Messi would struggle in the Prem, just like Ronaldo has. The Prem games are all intense and more demanding than other leagues in Europe, where many games are against minnows.

Fair enough let’s compare the stats. The copa America is the equivalent of the euros and Messi has won it, been top scorer and player of the tournament. He’s scored nearly three times the number of goals Maradona scored for Argentina and has played over twice as many games. He has a better goal per games record and greater longevity.

Maradona “galvanised” the Argentina team by deliberately cheating by punching the ball into the net and being off his tits on performance enhancing drugs his entire career.

There can be no comparison here surely?

Messi never "quite" did it as in he never almost single handedly dragged Argentina there, they had/have a very good team and should have done much better.

Ronaldo has carried Portugal many times.

I think people depending on who they think is best view them both very differently. I thought Ronaldo was very ordinary in Euro 2016, he scored 2 against Hungary in amongst two other group stage draws and then one against us in the Semi final.
He was only on the pitch for 20 minutes in the final.

I view Messi as the most naturally gifted player of all time and the one to truely make the most of his talents over a full career. (Maradona cut short by injuries and his own antics).
Ronaldo on the other hand is probably the best out and out goalscorer of all time and a complete athlete.
Both very different players and immensely talented, just depends on what you like to watch.
Messi for me every day of the week.
