The Flare incident on 16:00 - Oct 1 by EllDale | Sorry, but there was nearly a serious issue in the Sandy when Quigley scores that goal. The Overcoaters are trying to develop an atmosphere but a rabble of a few dozen chavs stampeded towards the Doncaster fans to taunt them. Several were knocked over in the process. It looks like the genuine fans are being submerged by 14 year old knobheads. |
Couple of lads looked to be escorted out of the stand by the fuzz before kick off

A question was asked at the forum in the summer around why are away fans not sited in the middle of the Willbutts? Being two blocks further down would stop most of the pointless taunting from the away fans and our fans would suddenly have nobody to run down to the corner to shout at. A lot of the issues can be prevented.

Yes, lots of youngsters running back and forwards across Edenfield Rd looking for 'trouble'. It would only take one distracted driver for it to result in a nasty accident. It's not big and it's not clever
The Flare incident on 18:32 - Oct 1 with 2958 views | Ben_M | Evening all, We've still had limited contact from the club in regards to flares but myself, others and the trust are still exchanging emails. It was clear today that the club is aware of the issue with the tweet from Simon and what seemed to be an increased stewarding presence. Happy that we was able to cut out the use of pyros and hopefully will continue too going forward. All I can say is a thank you for all the support and those who are involved in the group. Everyone was loud and proud today despite the result. One step at a time, Up the Dale!

Wouldn't think so, if it happened away from the ground. I can't quite make out the location properly on that picture.

Think that’s the coach on the way back to the motorway. At the lights at the Mcr Road/Roch Valley way junction.

I think part of the problem is having an epithet given to them (or taken upon themselves?) such as "Overcoaters". This confers an entirely spurious reference to an honorable period in the club's history that these youths aren't capable of appreciating - not by a long chalk Yes, there's more atmosphere generated, but having them made out to be doing something exceptional, when youths (including myself at one point) supported Dale in very vocal fashion as a matter of course is in fact a betrayal of the legacy of the real Overcoaters

The Flare incident on 20:18 - Oct 1 with 2482 views | BucketBstard | What the feck is wrong with these idiots. This is mindless bullying in my mind. There would of been kids and mums and dads on that coach . Never attack scafers . Only real dispicable clubs do that. Grow up and behave , its not big and certainly not clever. I'm sure there were some fans from Donny who would of been happy to have a pavement dance with you , perhaps throw a road a sign or chair at each other. Please do not bring this kind of cowardice to our club.
The Flare incident on 20:20 - Oct 1 with 2466 views | EllDale | This going to be my last post on the matter. I don’t want to come across as a moaning old so and so who wants to stop kids enjoying themselves. I’ve remarked before how an awful lot of these lads remind me of when I was 14/15/16 and singing myself hoarse in the Sandy. From what I’ve witnessed today though the lads cloaking themselves in the Overcoaters gown fall into two categories. There are the genuine fans who are interested in the team and the game. And then there are the chavs who have just latched onto the fact that they now have a venue where they can indulge in the kind of behaviour that would see them locked up if they acted in a similar way in such numbers in the town centre. I was lucky today when the sideways surge happened after the goal because I was able to step back a couple of paces and find myself against the rear wall. Goading and taunting happens on most grounds but most are seated so the people involved don’t have the same mobility and freedom of movement. As mentioned above the club have been asked why the away fans can’t be housed in the area adjacent to Pearl Street. I feel that this needs to be revisited before the likes of Bradford City or Stockport turn up and and the Willbutts is full. That handful of stewards couldn’t cope today never mind with a full house. God help us if we draw a club with a large following in the first round of the cup eg Sheffield Wednesday. The guys behind the Overcoaters deserve full credit for their efforts but I would hate to think that they have created a sort of spectators Frankenstein Monster. You can’t self police a hundred frenzied lads full of adrenaline. As DA says something happened immediately before kickoff as well. Several of the stewards were scrutinising the crowd behind the goal and obviously spotted someone of interest. That led to their supervisor being summoned who made EBJ look like Odoh and he waded into the crowd. All I can say is that the buzzwords where I currently work are “hazard spot” and “risk assessment”. I could certainly have made out one of the former this afternoon and would suggest that someone from the club does the latter before there is a serious incident.

Walking down Sandy Lane after the game both sets of idiots were as bad as each other. There was plenty of steaming Donny fans looking for bother, throwing cones about and goading our own set of plonkers. Extremely unsavoury scenes. The behaviour of a lot of the Donny fans was pretty poor throughout in all honesty. I noticed the same idiot who threw the red flare on the pitch, we also ran on the pitch celebrating when they scored the second goal and our stewards did nothing on either occasion.

Not really. Depending on where it was parked and which way it was facing, down Mellor Street towards Asda, right at the lights and up Manchester Road to the old Tesco roundabout.

The Flare incident on 20:47 - Oct 1 with 2342 views | Sandyman | Why place large sheets in Willbutts Lane to separate home and away fans from goading, and then let away fans climb over said sheets (and even dance on them) whilst stewards did nothing to prevent such behaviour, nor eject the hooligans responsible? As mentioned above and in other posts, these stewards struggle with low crowds. They didn't cope well today with just shy of 900 in the away end. I dread to think what will happen if we are beating Bradford and Stockport. Previous visits by Doncaster show that their idiots have form for being dickheads, so we should have been better prepared. That being said, the increase in nobheadishness throughout the game (some of our so-called fans included) is not welcome. Dale fans, shareholders and the new board have spent tens of thousands of hours and sleepless nights ensuring we still have a club to follow in the wake of a mercenary CEO and the unwelcome actions of predators. A handful of infantile morons attaching themselves to the club to play at being football hooligans are nothing more than a boil that needs to be lanced. Prepare the needle.

Totally agree with your point about fans fighting tooth and nail to save the club. We can’t let this type of behaviour take hold. The club has tried to work with the fans to help improve atmosphere and it’s being thrown back in their faces. Maybe not directly by those they have worked with but by a minority of fans , which unfortunately is growing in number. I felt for the stewards what are they to do when faced with such intimidation? This will ultimately lead to higher police numbers and increased operating costs for the club.

The club have had very little input in the group at all. We approached the club in the summer about the idea of the Overcoaters and at the time they was well on board. We had originally discussed having the group in the Pearl end but struggled to get any sort of safe standing ideas past by HnS . Since then we've had no further contact from the club about the group despite trying to get in touch on multiple occasions via email and twitter. There is a bases for a very solid fan led group and that was showed at the early stage of this season. We'd love some club direction or pointers to hopefully iron out the current issues and make it something successful rather than the atmosphere falling flat on its face once again.

Some of that sounds disappointing, Ben. Especially as you’re willing to try and go forward positively. If you’ve contacted them via email, there is an agreed response time via the club charter.

Its not great unfortunately mate. To the clubs due they was bang on in the summer. We brain stormed ideas with the club and the trust via zoom calls and it looked promising. Once it came to getting the HnS side of standing in the Pearl it went quiet. This was early doors of pre-season so we decided to move the group to the Sandy as we wasn't getting any responses and wanted to get something set for the new season. Since then we've emailed both the club and Simon on multiple occasions trying to get some help with it all but heard nothing. The early games of the season the group was a hit and went down really well, the Burton game being an example. As more people have found out about the group it has obviously started a platform for stupid behaviour. It was a step forward today with no pyro's and the lads involved seem more than happy to work with us going forward which is good. As a group we would massively appreciate all the help the club could give us to make it successful but it seems a struggle atm.

Surely the whole point of having a representative from Dale Trust on the club board is to take these kind's of ideas forward? If your emails could be channelled through the Trust, they would surely have a far greater chance of gaining traction? The inboxes of the board members must get pretty full with all the business they have to attend to. Just a thought... There's been plenty of criticism on this thread, including from myself. None of it is directed at you, but whatever influence you have needs to start working before the whole initiative becomes an albatross round the neck of the club instead of a positive way of generating more atmosphere Good luck, if you approach the Dale Trust to help take it forward
