If you were a fan of Preston and followed them Home and Away in their six games this season you would have seen one goal. Five 0-0 and one 1-0. Must be time wasting from the first minute.

I'm intrigued. Haven't seen them yet. That Riis is a decent striker, wanted by a lot of clubs, so interested to know what's going on there.

A cautious coach and a screaming fan base
A drilled back line and wary midfield
A striker wailing and stray CAM howling
The screech of brakes as you reach halfway
That's entertainment, that's entertainment

Poll: Best hug a stranger / fall down five rows / 'limbs' late goals this season

Riis is sitting on the bench after having his head turned by supposed Middlesboro interest.

I wouldn't say first minute, they didn't come onto the pitch until 3.02.. All your favourite time-wasting tricks paraded at their finest, they must stay back after training specially.

By the same token, Bristol City appear to have found a new level - five minute throw-ins and every tackle/contact a three minute leg-clutching roll-fest; Nigel is going to have to go into the transfer market for 2 or 3 more physios and a standby stretcher team at this rate.

E Riis Jakobson looked the sort of player who might train on - all running and very physical. Troy Parrot, on the other hand, looks like he couldn't score in the proverbial...

Boring team, boring club in a boring kit from a boring part of the world.

I once saw them play at Brentford.

Their fans' swearing when chanting was truly epic. I mean truly imaginative. Ingenious. Inspirational.

If James Joyce was reborn as a football fan, he'd support PNE.
And, maybe, little boys and girls...maybe he does.

Ground-breaking new category Brian! For the minute appreciation of hours of nothing happening, I imagine Marcel Proust having a season ticket at Deepdale. I can see Joyce wangling a job as kit man for a women’s team.

Thomas Hardy wove tales of naive innocence crushed by human duplicity and cruel fate. He wasn’t surprised when Alex Neil walked out of his club.

Dostoyevsky wrote a sentence in Crime and Punishment that went on for twelve pages. He told me how much he enjoyed the way our boys passed the ball around away at Blackburn last season.

As you're feeling a bit poetic at the moment Brian, I'm sending you one of my favourites!

James Joyce I fear is a bit beyond my understanding...

That's a coincidence, Nix!

I mentioned the 'Rough Ride' book by Paul Kimmage on a thread yesterday, which I'm re-reading at the moment, and Kimmage quotes this poem as an intro.

I had to look it up to see what it was called. I'd forgotten. Always loved the last three lines.

Mine too. They're so profound. I'll look up the book thread.

I also love this as much for the delivery as the poem.

Friend of mine (Palace fan) moved up to Lancaster about 10 years back and now takes his son to PNE.

I'm torn between respect for bringing the lad up to support his local side and ignore the likes of Citeh and ManU (plus breaking the Palace thing) and reporting him to social services.

QPR matches so far: more than one goal every 30 minutes on average.
PNE: one goal in 630 minutes.

Sorry, Nix. I mentioned 'Rough Ride' on the Match Thread, not the Book Thread.

It's not a book reccomendation as such, though it is a cracking sports book.

That Yeats poem is gorgeous, thanks. He's pure music.

The only poem I know by heart is 'An Irish Airman Foresees His Death' which most would find sad and tragic, but the words trip off the tongue so sweetly that I always find it uplifting.

Another win for them on the road and still nothing conceded so I guess the fans will be happy enough tonight.

No goals conceded after seven games is some stat.

Poll: QPR to finish 7th or Brentford to drop out of the top 6?

Pure Non Entertainment on 22:44 - Aug 31 with 4601 viewsSouthallRanger

Wow. Zero goals conceded, which naturally leads to the next stat of being undefeated (only team in championship). They are on the same points as us. Still I know which team I’d rather watch. I’d rather have the lows of Blackpool and Rotherham and then the highs of Watford and hull

The list of things I'd rather do than watch Preston includes jamming a corkscrew down my schlong, eating vegan barbecue and smelling Ricky Tomlinson.

Eating vegan bbq :D that one really made me laugh for some reason.

Agree, give me our zero clean sheets over their unspoilt hotel full of clean sheets

I think this song explains it all perfectly..

(filmed in Blackpool, which is Preston on Sea, after all)

It just occurred to me: weren’t Preston the first league club to go the full season undefeated… just saying. Also imagine if they went the whole season without conceding a goal.

Still it won’t count as it was before the premier league era, and they were never given a moniker such as “the invincibles”
