If it wasn’t for the manager he probably wouldn’t be here.

Hourihane - DONE on 08:00 - Jan 28 by Brynmill_Jack | It underlines just how important Smith and Bennett are to us. Missed their leadership last night and whilst Brentford were very very good we were pretty awful. A point after having a man sent off and coming back from behind are the real positives which we have to take forward. |
Didn't miss Bennett as a leader at all, as a CB definitely. Guehi and Cabango together with Fulton were outstanding given the lack of anything in front of them or around them. Bidwell showed up when he had to drop further back and Woodman managed to get himself in the way of some hard but not very clever shots. Poor from everyone else.

Hourihane - DONE on 09:21 - Jan 28 by Brynmill_Jack | Our passing was shite last night. Some of our players couldn’t have found their colleagues even if they were wearing hi viz and cowbells . That had f*ck all to do with Brentford in |
Because they strangled us of space pushing us further and further back by his system against ours ..I have played in systems that you can see where the problem is if they seem to have extra man and you change it ...100% it was the problem

Hear! Hear! Some on here put so much onus on formations. IMHO what really matters is ability - the ability to make an accurate pass, to beat a man, to have a shot on goal that troubles the goalkeeper, to find space, to receive and control a pass, to tackle an opposition player without getting booked or dismissed, and to be aware of what is going on around you, amongst other things. Yes, you have to be organised, obviously, but you can have the prettiest formation imaginable and if individual players are unable to execute some of the fundamentals i’ve listed, it doesn’t gain you a lot. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Is it fair to say though that no matter how bad he plays, Cabango is exempt from criticism from yourself? He got under the ball for their goal, and was outmuscled several time by Toney (who looks a very good player in fairness), he was extremely lucky not to be on a booking early yesterday. No slight on Cabango as I'm a massive fan but it wasn't one of his better games yesterday.

I thinkmhe is okmbut not as good everyone makes out yes he's strong but like you say gets out jumped on times not the best composure his passing a bit suspect under pressure,if he wasn't young and one of our own don't think he be getting away with as much

I see your point about formations, but it is a big part, by them having an extra man in the middle, due to their formation and cleverness, by taking other players away with their movement ,every time we looked to play into midfield, we were closed down ,and in turn no option, as they had extra man in there, so when they had it they could find space with extra man, with triangles around us, it meant Lowe and ayew coming so deep to help out that when we did get back we couldn't get out

I take your point. Playing a man short definitely needs organisation and management which is what formations are all about.

The left back was causing us load of problems. They done their homework they pushed onto our wing backs Who are good going forward but poor defending. We should have put another forward on and gone 4-3-3. And given their left back something to think about

Hourihane - DONE on 22:16 - Jan 28 with 972 views | ReslovenSwan1 | The amazing stat that the Hourahaine goal was the first direct free kick goal since that very clever Sigurdson /Llorente double act v Man Utd. Man Utd put a man on the goal line playing Llorente on side so Llorente repositioned between the wall and goal for a simple chip. The Untited player then vacated the goal line Llorente went back on side and Sigurdson scored at the exact same spot. The benefit of experience. I was working near Torquay at the time towards the end of the shift. Seem like ages ago. How many goals have Swansea left behind since then and how many points lost?. Hourahaine's free kicks one point two games. [Post edited 29 Jan 2021 0:01]

Totally totally agree, excellent post. You must be watching Pep - this is exactly what he has said recently. Hourihane. Want to see him playing at the core of our Spine, controlling, driving tempo, stretching the play with his pinpoint passing etc. With Grimes further forward.

Grimes cannot or should not play alongside Hooli. We need to bring Hooli up to speed and quick as his class can move us forward. Make him the main man .
