EXTENDED MATCHDAY HIGHLIGHTS BELOW

Latest team news
George Byers is the only Swans player unavailable.
Preston have a full squad to select from.

Probably the most memorable game was on the 2nd May 1981 at Deepdale when the swans won 3-1 to secure promotion to the old division one under John Toshack. For a lot of older swans fans this was pay back for the 2-1 loss at Villa Park in March 1964 in front of 63,000 half of which were Swansea Town supporters. At the end of that game Preston won 2-1 in what was described at the time as a pretty poor referee display with decisions going against the swans which were let’s say ‘extremely questionable’

Some memories from 1981.

Another fantastic swans memory came in September 2008 when Ferrie Bodde scored a scintillating 40 yard plus goal on twenty minutes. The swans won the game 2-0 that night with Jordi Gomez getting the second goal from the penalty spot.

Jordi Gomez & Ferrie Bodde

Swans fans are none too confident regards this game, the lack of team strengthening and seemingly too many players waiting to move on spells out a home win, a draw would be acceptable.

DID YOU KNOW ?

Freddie Flintoff was born in Preston, and KFC opened their first restaurant in the U.K. in Preston. Here’s one for you, one of the first women’s football teams formed in Preston, yes they were called ‘Dick Kerr Ladies’ Er ... Is that ok ?

Preston has the tallest church spire in England and has a pretty large B&M as well.

Here’s a semi interesting thing about our hosts this weekend. Preston and its surrounding area have provided evidence of ancient Roman activity, largely in the form of a Roman road which led to a camp at Walton-le-Dale. The Angles established Preston; its name is derived from the Old English meaning "priest's settlement" and in the Domesday Book is recorded as "Prestune".

The Domesday Book yesterday.

It would be at this point we would do a pubs to visit and hotels recommended. Pretty pointless really. However, it’s safe to say they do have pubs and hotels in Preston, which is commendable.

We shouldn’t leave our fact finding mission on Preston without covering one of the towns best public houses, The Black Horse. Conveniently situated next to Wilkos, once you have bought a shit load of bargains you didn’t know you needed you can relax and choose from the many local ales and fizzy lagers served to your table.

This is the Black Horse, next door as you can see is Wilkos, who are in direct competition with many of B&M’s products.

Swansea hold the most wins between the two teams with 25, the swans biggest win was 5-0 in 1929, although they have recorded numerous four goal games. In that game one Jack Armand played for the swans, the clubs first overseas player. Born in India and Anglo Indian he played for two seasons and scored ten goals in around fifty appearances. Not bad, a bit like Stephen Torpey.

Jack Armand and the Swansea Town 1929/30 squad. Jack is in the middle row third from left. Or four from the right for political equality.

Fotmob make Preston favourites for the game, with a draw next favourable. If this game is anything like last seasons Deepdale confrontation we should be in for a cracker.

Their game was on all frequencies bar the immediate Swansea area and I’m so glad they were allowed to publicize how sh*t they are far and wide

Plenty of opportunity to seal the game had we upped the formation ten metres further up the pitch, but cooper will be convinced it worked. An away 1-0.
It’s a great start.

Cooper is a f*cking idiot. He’s learned nothing about allowing sides to come on to us and inevitably score

Watching Wales last week it was bvious they needed a player like Andre Ayew to ping those wide balls out to overlapping players. Ben Woodburn is actually very good at that. Steve Cooper was adament that Andre dropped Bidwell in for a perfectly good goal.

Wise sage since Toshack era

Loyal - maybe better to put all that info in the second post so that we don't have to scroll through it every page...good effort though. Busier on here than PS at the moment it seems.

I agree with this.

Fantastic effort from Loyal, though. A great thread. Excellent stuff.

Shame the lads forgot what Potter taught them about defending counters. If Graham had Margetson as his goalkeeping & set pieces coach we'd have been laughing.

Well done on the thread Loyal.

Some real negativity early on in this thread lads, let’s not be like the other forum. We aren’t going to win every game and we aren’t going to play well every game, especially away. We will need to grind out some results this season and negativity breeds negativity.

The team deserve some backing and trust, especially at the start of the season where many of these players have barely kicked a ball for us. Sometimes it seems like people are slagging off Cooper our of habit.

Cracking result and should have won by more. Onto next week!

“ I'm not feeling too good about this one either as we're significantly weaker than last season. I hope we get a few quality signings done before the window closes or it could be a long, painful season.”

I’ll admit to negativity but only because of the way we sit back after going one up. We should keep the pressure on the opposition and make them work hard without the ball . You wouldn’t see the top sides in the division ease up and barricade themselves in their own box!

Not only a Cooper fault either - remember Rotherham away under Potter??

Touche'

There was some negativity on both sites tbh but I dont see it as negativity, just realism, remember last saturday?

Btw I always look at the positive side of things, after last saturday there was nothing positive to look at so you can see why people werent giving the team much chance.

Unreasonable imo to expect us to maintain such a high tempo/press Throughout an entire Game.

Not even Liverpool do that, and play on the counter when they’ve had to sit back to absorb the Inevitable counter punching from an opposition on the ropes - like Preston did ydy when they brought the big man up front.

So my expectations with our 352 Setup is a two-fold strategy -
1. control-dominance, pace, high energy, tempo, press
2. Controlled defensive, wide out-ball, counter punching

Which is how yesterday played out, in the main.

Pro free speech and alternative opinions - Anti gang-bullying and poor modding thereof - Will always make a stand against those who consistently choose to turn a blind eye

They didn’t sit back deliberately. It was not part of the game plan.

Preston changed shape and personnel and attacked more forcing our lads back and in football despite the best intent to attack it can become impossible for periods during a game.

And then when defending a lead away from home there is no need to commit too many players forward as that leaves you open to counter attack, especially late on.

1-0 away win. Clean sheet. New players finding their feet. A very solid back three of Rodon Guehi Cabango. Ayew still here (for now). A great day for Steve Cooper and Swansea City 👏

Only an idiot would eat a turkey curry on Christmas day

I'm not as sanguine as you Nige but you post fair stuff there.

I like our back 3 but it' a case of us keeping them at the club.

It' also the case that some of us (me) still haven't got over our relegation and the fact we have spunked away tens of millions and our now at bargain basement level.

I look at Burnley and how they manage and weep. A remarkable club however .

Anyway, enjoy the next few days .

I thought Ayew was excellent, really pulled the strings.
We need him to stay this season and we need to be planning on his replacement for next season.
