Danny Ings on 22:00 - Aug 31 by 1ASIN12 | So according to that list Leeds, Aston Villa, Everton, West Ham and Newcastle are all below Portsmouth too. Is he saying Portsmouth are bigger then them too? |
The list is based on achievements this century, ie based on facts. It's not hard to understand. the question is, if Soton are so big, shouldn't they be higher up the list. Pompey have been average this century, but are above you. If I was to repeat the process back a century for the other previous 25 years, Soton would only come out on top between 1975 - 2000. Again, factual.

since when did winning stuff mean your big? Liverpool won nothing for a very long time, they didnt get any small during it.... infact, they are far bigger now than they was when they last won the league. Fans make a club big, with out fans, Liverpool, United, Gunners, Barca, and real wouldnt be as big as they are, and of course money, take that away and big clubs wouldnt plunder smaller clubs of its better players every season to make sure they keep the status quo.

If you mean since their last league championship till the last one, they actually won: 3 FA cups, 4 League Cups, 1 EUFA cup, 2 Champions league's, 2 Super Cups, 1 World club cup. They were still bigger in the Eighties though. The big clubs just got bigger due to getting an even bigger piece of the pie. Fans do make clubs big, but, again that isn't everything. Soton aren't a bigger club than Monaco, Soton also aren't bigger than Celtic, despite taking their players. The PL is presently just an inflated league because of all the money. Being successful is part of the equation, despite what your fans like to think.

your missing the point, they have won stuff, but on a tiny scale compared to other traditional big clubs eg Real, United, Barca and so on and so on, Ajax win things most years how come they are not bigger than Liverpool United and co? Bayern win stuff every year, how come they are not the biggest club? or Real / Barca? Psg? quite a big list, how come south american teams are not the biggest? they win stuff every year and have even beaten eu teams in the fifa world club.... why are they not the biggest?... right now we have got the basics of your arguement out of the way eg tropheys dont make clubs big....... Lets compare the wages each team offers and if it coincides with its size? and then fan bases.... How come you have won more but still sit down in league 1? how come we have won less yet have more fans and are in the epl and your not? is it cause we won more or got more fans / earn more money / have more money??? better run? better player? coach? better club? Keep your tropheys and history.. i get to watch my team play againts the best players in the league and give them a good decent games, some times i even get to watch these world class players at Southapton fc before they move on for the bigger pay check... its all good.... We ae far closer to winning the EPL than you are, your not even in the right league, so wind your neck in and go do some thing more productive for your team eg support it and help drag its sorry arse out of league 1 and maybe get to the epl and gives us a better game than last time yeah..

The reason English clubs 'generally' don't win loads of stuff, is that the league is so competitive. 8 league winners in 30 years is unmatched anywhere by any of the big leagues. A big team like Liverpool not winning the league for 30 years would be unheard of in Spain, Italy or Germany, think about it. Luckily we don't have a league like Germany or Spain, but our league is getting worse due to the overseas TV money to the big six. It could be that none of the other clubs ever win the league again, unless the TV rule is challenged by the other 14 clubs. Portsmouth going down to the lower leagues had nothing to do with size, it was about dodgy owners, think about it. Your club have been stable compared to ours, that is the key difference. In fact, our club is more stable right now than it has been for over 60 years. Your club don't win stuff, I don't know why that is. Maybe your fans need to stick their necks out and start singing a bit more, something we don't have a problem with in Pompey.

only 5 different teams have won it for the last what 15 years? 2 of them 5 have won it just once each.. so 3 teams have won 13 titles between them out of 15...............yeah highly competitive obviously... [Post edited 1 Sep 2020 19:31]

Yep, 5 in 15, and 6 in 16. But that is still miles more competitive than the other leagues.
