I did like her joke about the time she visited her doctor, who was worried about her not getting enough exercise:-

I saw her entering the Garage club whilst p*ssed walking home (after being in the tavern for hours one Saturday after a match carrying a takeaway home) - I shouted something unintelligible to her by way of “f*cking hell, am I hallucinating- that’s Jo Brand going in the back door of the Garage” - she looked terrified lol . One of my few usually disappointing encounters with celebrities. No restraining order this time though . |  |

It’s all dictated by P.C now and the real talent can’t break through either because they don’t tick enough diversity boxes or their material is considered too risky.
How many shows do you switch on and see Sara Pascoe and Katherine Ryan sitting there? They are on literally everything. They seem nice enough but they aren’t very funny. There simply have to be women out there funnier than these two.
When was the last time we had a decent sitcom?
I remember listening to an interview with Ade Edmonson a few years back where he said the reason they stopped doing shows for the BBC was the constant interference from producers and executives telling them “you can’t do/say that”.

Plenty of good comedy out of there if you look for it (with the acknowledgement that tastes obviously vary). Sadly cancelled for this year, but Machynlleth Comedy Festival has been running for years and always has class acts I've not heard of:

The first year it ran (2010), I helped out selling tickets and watched plenty of the shows. I saw the likes of Josh Widdicombe, Nick Helm, James Acaster, Isy Suttie, Elis James, Pappys, Joe Lycett. Isy Suttie was the only one I'd heard of and that was because of Peep Show. Almost all of those have gone on to be pretty successful and have been on TV plenty.
Now all we need is someone to bully Jackfath and this thread ticks all the boxes. As for Rhod Gilbert, never been my favourite but he's funny enough. |  |
