I went for West Ham, it is just so far away from the pitch, the lower section is too low and the upper section too far behind, it's like having half your support in another ground

Newcastle, like climbing Everest to get to the top, about a million steps, had to stop twice to get the inhaler out. So high up couldn't see game through the clouds below us.
Covered 30 flights climbed on phone health app that Sunday last December, a new PB. Took till Villa away 2 weeks later to recover.

Anfield or Selhurst Park should be there. To be fair to them both, if people sat down the view would probably be ok, but they don't (which is fine) and neither have a great view
But probably Goodison

I reckon you are further away from the pitch at Newcastle than even at the back at West Ham. Plus there is the altitude sickness to contend with !!
If you are unlucky enough to be towards the back of the lower tier in the away end at Goodwin, then you probably have worst view in the Prem.
Palace can be poor depending on your seat and the stanchions - also depends on our allocation take up !!
Bournemouth is poor because of the p1ss poor allocation they give to away teams.
Perhaps the worst though, was a while back at QPR, where some £40(?) away tickets gave a view, mainly of a temporary TV camera or commentary gantry. Seem to recall that photos from our fans that were in these seats, made the tabloid press. QPR refused to refund, saying they were sold as restricted view - but with more than half of the view obscured, they should have been at least half price !!

If the Everton away section gets any more than 300 votes then some people will be executing there ‘I was at the joiners for the Nirvana gig’ vote.

First time visitor there this weekend, but is it as bad as the Withdean from back in the day?

Isn't Loftus Road where you cannot even see the goal line from the stand behind the goal? I know the steel beams above your head when in lower tier are a pain (literally) when you score being so low

No it's not as bad as the withdene. Newcastle is rediculously high, and is worse than West Ham in my opinion. At West Ham you are a bit further away from the pi tch than most grounds but you can see the game no problem.

unfair we normally take at least 1,500 in recent years, to be fair used to be a lot less
Prior to getting relegated, the away support at Goodison was in the low hundreds, I went on the Saints coaches a couple of times and could pick most of the Saints fans out from my seat in the Park End. Following relegation, Saints do bring more to be fair.

Shock, horror: our worst away support is at one of the two worst away sections in the league, at a ground where we always lose. 1,500 is not great but it shows that if you make away fans unwelcome by sticking them in a corner with a poor view, where they can have little effect, they will stay away.
We could learn from that. You can stick them in a corner, bury them below ground level or put them high up in the sky but the important thing is to keep them away from anywhere where they can have any influence on the officials and players. Leeds moved their away section for that reason and were honest about it. If you want to be successful in a highly competitive field, every little advantage you can eke out counts.

Yep, it's interesting that we rarely take many fans to Everton. We have sold out early 3000 at Norwich, we took 6000 to Spurs and always sell out the London games. Everton away is always not well attended for some reason.

If Goodison weren't our bogey ground, where Everton have inflicted heavy defeats on us on numerous occasions, and if they allocated us a big section behind the goal at the Gwladys Street end, we'd take as many to Everton as we do to Liverpool.
Away numbers at St Mary's would certainly fall if we had an away section like the ones at Everton and Newcastle. As it is, we have what is considered to be one of the best and most welcoming away sections in the league and our ticket office offers generous ticket prices to try and attract as many away fans as possible.
Usually, because they are the only ones with a large, noisy section directly behind a goal, away fans have more influence at St Mary's than home fans but we got lucky against Villa because their fans were very quiet. It was one of the few games this season where you knew not every 50/50 decision was going to go the way of the visitors.

They couldn’t compete with the mighty Itchen North, chap.
If other teams had our ground, the Itchen North is where they'd stick the away fans because it is one of the worst locations in the ground for having any influence on the game. If you put the same number of vocal fans directly behind the goal at the Chapel end, they'd have far more influence on players and officials and it would give us a home advantage.
There is a reason why, in football grounds all over the world, the noisiest and most fanatical fans, who really want to do everything tbey can to help their team win, locate themselves directly behind the goal, where they know they will have the most effect. Can you imagine fans of the most successful teams, like Liverpool, Manchester United, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Boca Juniors, River Plate, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund etc having their most vocal fans hidden away in the corners of the away end??? Of course not: they'd say that's totally stupid. We are one of the few sets of fans in the world who have to moan about 50/50 refereeing decisions going against us at home and that's totally self-inflicted.

Dirk, you have put it perfectly. Why on earth so many are happy to stand in corners is beyond me. Its OUR ground. Every club has its own end,we have the corners. And before people say we are all over the ground,we all know where the most vocal fans are, they are located in part of the Northam and in the corner of the Itchen. Congregate them together and as you say they would have more influence on a game. One can only hope one day we will see the light.

well if you ignore the fact that Real have their ultras in the second and third tiers at the bernabeu (and more towards a corner), then ignore places like the Chicken Run at Upton Park (which was down the side) or the positioning of the main home support at the New Den, or various split stands behind goals, that were definitely main home ends, in the days of terracing (The Dell with the Archers being one), oh and of course Nick's favourite's of Liverpool who have the Kop, but then a totally different culture in the Anny Road end.
I think the thing many people seem to miss is that the reason the Itchen North exists is because a lot of the folk in there don't want to be in the Northam (one other thing why has the Northam suddenly become referred to as a corner, when it hasn't been every other season St Mary's has been open as it's an end behind a goal).
The truth is we have a "Kop" at the Chapel, it's just that the people in it don't sing. Then we have the Kingsland North and Northam, which combined could be plenty loud enough to drown out away fans, and in the past did just that.
The problem is more simple, the Northam no longer do their job. perhaps the Kingsland North and Itchen North should bring back the old Dell classic to inspire them.
Northam, Do your job Northam Northam Do your job.

Dirk I like reading your posts and respect your opinion, but I have to take umbrage at your claims that firstly we have one of the best and most welcoming away sections, there are some worse but there are also some better and more wecoming
Secondly the claim that our ticket office offers generous prices to away fans, this is an utter fabrication, by Premier League rules we have to offer the same prices to the away fans as we offer our own fans and we have to charge them a maximum of £30.
If you are referring to the £10 refund of a couple of seasons ago that was nothing to do with Saints it was done by Virgin Media as part of their sponsorship of the football supporters federation's Twenty's plenty deal, Virgin gave each away team that refund once a season but did it for us at least twice a season.
Perhaps if Saints could actually sell out the empty blocks that some teams don't take then as Liverpool do they might not make it so easy

What’s Brighton’s home record like as I don’t think you will find a more welcoming and accommodating club than them. Decent away allocation behind the goal, welcoming bars and entertainment outside, bar staff wearing the away team colours, posters up welcoming the away fans, decent food and drink with knives and forks and condiments FFS.
Then they have that silly little ditty that everyone kind of laughs at before kick off. Maybe they just chill everyone out so the away fans can’t be arsed to get up for the game? I’ve only been there once and had a cracking day out but the match itself passed me by.

Poor. They haven't won a home game this year and it's one of the grounds where we nearly always win. In contrast, I see Everton's home record is, understandably, very good, and, of course, it's one of the grounds where we nearly always lose.
