That pr1ck McClean again. Not even a rainbow one.

Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

The Poppy isn't a political symbol, it's just an emblem of respect.

Although some people will try to make a political/sexuality point out of it.

Yes you are right some people will try and make
A political statement and point score on anybody who don wear one

Luckily being married to a Donegal girl and my father in law who was in the gardai, I have first hand experience on the "Derry" individuals that we are discussing.

My uncle was in the Welsh guards and served over there, he had some mates who served with him visit, and I sat among them one evening as they discussed what went on over there, and they all seemed to blame the British elitist and government, for most of the troubles out there which was an eye opener for me.

The whole Spurs team on Sunday didn't wear poppies on their shirts I seem to recall. Not seen that mentioned .

It’s because it wasn’t remembrance weekend.

No political point mate, just don't understand why people wouldn't want to show respect in the traditional way, and not try to twist things to suit their own agenda.

But hey!! as has already been pointed out on an earlier post, people died for you to have the choice of wearing or not wearing a poppy, if you choose not to wear one, then I'll respect that decision, I don't understand or like it, but I'll respect it.

That last para. Perfect answer. Should be enough to end any of the many annual threads on this subject. Well said, Flash.

The poppy was for a good cause for vets from the first and secoun d world wars.
Unfortunately in the last few yrs it seems to be hijacked to score political points over people.
Which I don't think it was ment to used that way.

I agree with you. What used to be an understated commemoration over one weekend has over the past decade or so become a month long excuse for people to slate others who aren’t wearing a poppy or maybe wearing what they see as the wrong kind of poppy. Plus endless minutes silences and a reason for people to show how much they “care” on social media.

Fair enough, I've got family buried in Flanders
But it is up to the individual if he wants to wear one..
It should not be forced on any one

Freedom of speech doesn’t restrict people to only say things that you agree with.

It’s not difficult.

Today, my boss's 5 year old was scolded by his teacher for not wearing a poppy (it wasn't a political protest, the parents just didn't know that he was supposed to - borrowed a couple of quid from me to buy one to wear tomorrow. The infant school is in a very conservative part of England.)

And woe betide a BBC journalist or MP who doesn't wear one - in October?!

To quote a few on here: It's political correctness gone mad.

It's about people disagreeing that McLean doesn't wear a poppy.

Some agree, some don't, personally I think he's a c*nt but Hey! people have differing opinions, which they are entitled.

I never wear a poppy but I always donate

Theres blokes in work that wear about 20 of them all year round on their lanyards sort of defeats the object in my opinion

Anyway I always get stick for not wearing one but it's my choice because I was given that choice by those that fought

No child should be scolded for not wearing a poppy.
I will be happy to report them and the teacher concerned.
