The council blame Huw on expansion on 16:35 - Sep 3 with 2587 views | felixstowe_jack | With a 10th of the money the Council spent on the Bendy Bus route they could easily have reopened Landore Station curing most of the traffic and parking problems around the Stadium. Anyone who has been to Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs will know jusy how easy and quick it is to get to those vastly bigger stadiums.

In London. With a world-class underground system. I wouldn't have Spurs in that list either mind, and I'm noting the absence of Wet Spam. I saw a figure once where it would have cost £5m to bring Landore up to spec, and there were a whole host of logistical issues too. And that's not even factoring in how big would this train have to be to resolve all the bottleneck issues around Hafod, Landore etc. None of this is defending the council of course, their press release today was as predictable as it was disingenuous, but a train station isn't going to solve much.

The council blame Huw on expansion on 16:20 - Sep 3 by Glyn1 | Jenkins criticises the council in the programme: the council defends itself: everyone criticises the council for defending itself. It’s pathetic. Doesn’t the council appreciate how much Swansea’s success has benefitted “the city’s economy” i.e. some local pubs and Morgan’s Hotel? I don’t care how they do it — just expand the effing stadium. |
So you read jenkins' notes then Glyn? Thought not
The council blame Huw on expansion on 17:12 - Sep 3 with 2509 views | sully49 | Having all, being in favour of the expansion, we need to include a policy on car parking and transportation as the current situation is so farcical. Any increase made in stadia will impact massively on these. With area being the major problem, why cant we just go up and adopt a multi story car park?

The council blame Huw on expansion on 18:01 - Sep 3 with 2447 views | NeathJack | As someone who purchased a season ticket for thw Landore park and walk car park I can assure everyone that the council haven't got the slightest clue regarding the management of traffic on the scale currently required around the stadium, let alone following an expansion. It took an hour to get out of the car park on Sunday as the council do not stop traffic coming across white rock bridge from the roundabout despite the fact that the through road towards the roundabout near Vesuvios is closed. This means that the traffic has to doubke back in itself back where it came from. This has the knock on effect of stopping vehicles leaving the 2 car parks at Landore park and walk. Couple this with the fact there is no one from the council there to manage the vehicles trying to leave rhe two car parks and converging into a bottle neck to try and access the roundabout that it impossible to get on and it's a perfect storm. They are happy to have someone on the gate before rhe game to take payment/check tickets but afterwards when they need to be providing traffic management they are nowhere to be seen. Utter shambles.

Wouldn't it be possible just to run a track from the station to the park and ride using the old sidings and just run a train back and forth on match days? I agree it's not really apt to compare Swansea to the London teams who benefit from already having a massive public transport system in place (I also agree that getting to Spurs isn't exactly easy as most people walk the roughly same distance from Seven Sisters as you would from Swansea station). Not being a Swansea fan I have no idea if the problem is actually getting from the train station though.

Much of the criticism on here for the Boulevard and the Bendy Bus needs to be directed at the last administration. Having said that there is no doubt about the complacency of Welsh Labour administrations and the career politicians who do not like to the rock the boat in the hope of furthering their own careers. We get the politicians we deserve and it is up to us to stand as candidates or recommended others at a local and national level. It is the way democracy works. My hope is that Welsh Labour gets a bloody nose at next WAG elections and is in turn may shake up our local politicians. With regards to the Torys, and their disdain for the Public Sector, then it would be the classic 'turkeys voting for Christmas' if they got in as this sector is by far the biggest employer in the area.

What about the proposal from the Welsh government that Swansea Council should merge with Neath Council? This is close to being agreed thus creating a new council. [Post edited 3 Sep 2015 22:39]

If you leave it to the Welsh Government they will relocate the stadium to Cardiff like everything else. Its the only way they will get a Premier League team now.

Landore would be a good solution but it's more complicated than it should be to get it working. Railtrack need to upgrade the whole track. First Great Western need to provide the train and carriages and provide formal training for the drivers for that route. The unions have to agree to the extra workload. It has to be agreed with whoever organises national train schedules. And so on, it's all achievable but not as easy as it should be.

The council blame Huw on expansion on 15:15 - Sep 4 with 1679 views | NeathJack | Monorail linking the stadium with the city centre and extending down Fabian Way to the new university campus and to Mumbles along the seafront following the route of the original Mumbles railway. Never mind your poxy tidal lagoons and other such nonsense, get the monorail built.
The council blame Huw on expansion on 15:21 - Sep 4 with 1675 views | Millie | The Landore halt would be good but let's be realistic, it would only be used on match day, making it unviable. The council need to forget park and ride as it's just not something that appeals no matter how much they try, would you park in swansea vale, wait for a bus, watch game then take chances on the return journey... I wouldn't, that's for sure There is a solution, use the banks, call centre and retail unit car parks on swansea enterprise park, put a number of cheap, reliable, regular buses picking up en-route from fendrod public house to Landore training academy, make sure walkway is well lit with plenty of stewards for the short walk to the Liberty, would work, surely?
