People 19:08 - May 29 with 9315 views | WxmJax | My wife has just opened a small food kiosk serving drinks and cakes in a local country park. Today we had someone who asked for her baby's bottle to be warmed up. She didn't buy anything, which is fine because we only have to pay rent on the kiosk, pay for electric, take out £5 million public insurance and buy all the necessary goods to get it up and running. We did it but when our children were young we bought a bottle warmer for the car or took a flask of hot water with us to do the job. I wanted to tell her to go sling her hook but then you get a bad reputation. The missus is leaving me in charge tomorrow. Could be fun. Most people are so nice and then you get some.

People really are noting if not disingenuous, sly and distrustful. Its well known just how people take advantage for purely selfish reasons. Glad I stayed out of this anyway

People on 11:39 - Jun 1 with 2315 views | perchrockjack | oh fack. two in agreement. They could also have been scousers (Wrexham)and using the baby as a ruse to rob the shop or distract while stealing. We ve got some pearlers on here, social workers, visionaries, philosophers and philanthropists . All seemingly pretty naïve. Its a filthy brutal world out there

A women wants to warm a babies bottle- I just don't see a conspiracy theory in that. For me it's says more about the people who would refuse.

I have to say I agree with you. It's quite clear why some of the people who agree with the OP don't work in a service industry...

Absolutely spot on. Speculate to accumulate. The bottle being warmed means they will hold the business in a good light and tell their contacts about the owner's kindness. I doubt queues of mothers would have been forming outside the premises asking for the same thing as a result of this. I can see that and I worked all my life in the nasty old uncaring Public Sector ;-) Keep the misses on the counter I would say :-) [Post edited 1 Jun 2015 12:23]

It's an incident I remember well, but a good few years back a girl I was working with warmed a babies bottle up for a lady, we actually had a bottle warmer for the purpose but apparently, according to the lady "That stupid girl has made it too warm, my baby can't drink this, it's boiling!" (It wasn't boiling btw!) and she kicked off for a good 10 minutes. I was the manager that day, we were rushed off our feet, and yet the girl working had got the bottle warmer out, set the timer, and handed the lady her bottle back after following all the instructions/procedures. Her thanks? This "Lady" wanted her sacked, wanted to get in touch with head office, demanded action be taken... Some people are just utter, utter tits! Thankfully, this was an extreme case, but every day, I deal with nice people, and not so nice people...that's just the way it is I guess?

And of course you are right. My experience is most people are nice but you always get a few fools. Just look a Trip Advisor. An establishment can have glowing references and yet there is always one.. Speculation has to be aimed at decent folk. You will never please the professional moaners.

People on 13:42 - Jun 1 with 2164 views | dickythorpe | As always some customers will take advantage and have you running around in circles. BUT there are genuine people out there and just taking a few minutes out to do something you may not offer as a service can reap its rewards. Its trial and error but you must always be polite. That goes a long way.

People on 20:54 - May 31 by WxmJax | Quote mother, "she usually drinks it cold when we're out". Or what about the guy that wanted a large knife to cut the melon that they'd just bought in Tesco. Do you want to buy anything ? No just a knife. Then he wanted plates and serviettes. If he'd bought a coffee I would probably have given them him just for his cheek. As for you and dgt, probably best not to comment on things that you don't know anything about. Ask the guy who I drove 3 miles to pick up his car save him walking because it was going to pour down what he thinks of our customer service, he only bought a tea and coffee off us, £2.30 in total. I suppose those repeat customers think we're ok as well. Most people are great, enjoy having a joke and a smile with them and then there are others, you'll know what I mean 😉 |
Ffs i would have given the mother a free cake aswell, trust me fella ,a good jesture can be like a contract forever as good words and a smile can make you a fortune, bad vibes no return ,i started off doing jobs as favours and we grew huge,i also wish your business well .

People on 20:58 - Jun 1 with 1949 views | centrestandswan | Having run a successful business for the last 30 years, you will meet all sorts of customers, the time wasters, the just come in for a warm, the criminal element ( small percentage I'm glad to say) the try it oners, the tight b@stards who always grumble about the cost and the sob story ones ( haven't got enough money can I pay you tomorrow ?) They never do. The majority are OK so stick with it. Only you will know your customers and you will be able to assess who is genuine and who isn't, not easy but you will learn, return to this site in 30 years time and tell me I was right. OH good luck by the way with your enterprise.

People on 21:20 - Jun 1 with 1935 views | Thursday | It wasn't the case that the lady needed to warm the bottle; the lady wanted to warm the bottle. Outdoor temperature would have been fine, as it usually is and is for most others. Good on OP for obliging the lady, which some posters seem to have missed. I don't mind helping out people, but I don't know if I'd have stretched that far while running a business. Customer service is one thing, non-customer service is another. When my son was a baby he had a digestion problem and had to be on a prescribed powder milk which had to be prepared with boiling water, and then cooled with iced water. This meant that on top of all the usual baby paraphernalia that we had to take with us, we had to take a large flask of boiling water and a large flask of iced water. On rare occasions it was known for us to forget a flask at home or in the car. It was the kindness and goodwill of people such as yourself that meant that our little one, who could not drink anything else could have his feed. Gestures like this go a long way, we extended our sincere thanks and bought two drinks and an ice cream. The one place that refused we politely walked away, and have never spent a penny there since, oh, and made sure that our friends and family were aware of the poor service that we received The moral of my tale is that it's easy to judge others, most people do their very best at all times, but sometimes we forget, or get distracted by the elder child running out into the car park (do we let him get run over so not to upset the man in van?). Treat others as you wish to be treated!
