We've got to apply for Academy 1 status, if our facilities and coaching/education set up is good enough, we join the league. There may be a bit more to it than that, but think winning Academy 2 league has no relevance to joining Acad 1. |

Kenji has some talent, fair play, first time i've seen him play. Linked very well with Hanley first half, who looks a tidy player himself. Thought Sheehan played well, the boy up front (Samuel?) put himself about a fair bit. Good game, and the oppo's numbers 11 and 4 looked good players too. |  |

This is really great to see. The improvements at u18 and u21 levels since our previous academy 'regime' was removed mid-season last season have been quite staggering. Well done to all the players and coaches involved. And well done to sir huwbert for making the changes. The huge improvements speak for themselves. |  |

Very entertaining game tonight, and I thought quite a good standard of football generally. At a game like this one's mind turns to the question of whether the players on show could step up, and that is when perhaps some reservations creep in. One could sense some frustration in the crowd when our nice build up work often broke down as we neared the opposition penalty area. Grimes was neat and tidy laying the ball off very efficiently, but he didn't really show as much flair as I'd hoped. Gorre always looked dangerous, but for me he is going to have to start getting his shots away more quickly if he wants to step up. I thought Samuel put in a good shift. He isn't the finished article, but fought a valiant battle up front. Overall the lads did very well to beat a workmanlike Huddersfield team. |  | | |

He played really well tonight, but I getthe feeling he just doesn't fit with Monks mindset of what he requires from player coming in to the first team. Seems odd he hasn't had a chance.

Can we apply with the structures being a work-in-progress or do they need to be completed? I didn't realise that academy status included the u21s, will be a shame if we can't go up to the next level. | |

So basically, you don’t need to get “promoted” to get into division 2, but just have the required facilities (i.e. Cat 1 status), and apply to join (and get approval)?
I don’t see any relegation from the national division 2. |  |

The U21s are the oldest of the Academy age group, I think the building work (classrooms etc) helps. But think we need the indoor training facility to nail it, which isn't far off. 👠| |

Was talking to a knowledgable friend last night, and he said another benefit of getting that category A status is that it will allow us to bring over any player from Europe into our academy.
So it'll definitely change the future of the club as we know it. There will, inevitably, be a drop in % of local lads coming through the system, but those that do should be the very best of what's around. Interesting times ahead. | |
