Crewe might be poor but top performance by ourselves. The armband brings the best out of Hendo and I thought TK, Rose and the two centre halves were superb. Playing Jamie Allen further forward in the second half had him almost unplayable after a forgettable first half from him. That pass through for Bunney's second was sublime. Not bothered at all about being 15th. Top class performance that far from flattered us.

So, you might say that Jones got lucky?

I'd say he made his own luck. How many times do you see keepers getting lucky because they force the forward to make a decision?

I thought Jones came out and narrowed the angle superbly, and when he came out to punch the ball and KO'd their defender, shows the mark of a 'keeper that sticks to his decisions, good to see.

Life is a game of fate.

My view on the opposition.

Up until the penalty, their defence was just about coping, their midfield battling and up front they had created the only chance of note on the break which went awry. I remember Sheff U getting a goal on the break and goals change matches. Not that I am comparing Crewe to Sheff U.

We had only threatened their net with 2 Rose free-kicks, a foul on Hendo which would have been a true goal scoring chance yet no card and that was roughly about it.

Their back 4 to me looked young and the two penalties conceded were school-yard errors. They played some neat stuff up front second half but Ajose can't shoot and our defence was excellent.

Once they went to 4-4-2 at half time and we got the second soon after, they were dead in the water.

That for me stands out loads. 3-0 down to Walsall. 3-2 result. 2-0 to Posh. 2-1 result. 2-0 Sheff U 2.1 result. It's easy to be picked off more when you go all gung-ho and change your formation as Crewe did tonight.

I'm upgrading from very pleased to buzzing after remembering we beat Crewe 4-0 tonight. The last time I was so chuffed about beating them, it was a 1-0 win after David Platt had been sold.

A great game for Dale fans to watch. How many times have we played a poor team and lost in the past? We really do seem able to put the weaker teams to the sword in our return to this division, so well done KH and crew (pardon the pun) for that.
Their No 4 shouldn't have even been on the pitch at half time - how many second chances did he get?
To see Allen, Rose, Vincenti and Henderson playing in unison as well as that was a joy. No chumps league to keep fans away tonight but on the way down, that Artic wind chill factor and snow made staying in in front of the fire very tempting. Coldest night we've played in for a while. Great result for those that did go and well played the lads.

My thoughts on tonight after reading this thread

Great result and a good push back in the right direction.
think people need to reevaluate some performances though. Rose was average tonight nothing spectacular like some are saying. His set pieces are very hit and miss. It frustrates me when a pro footballer can't beat the first man with a dead ball situation.

Also. Yes allen was fantastic tonight. But the same group of old men behind me in the sandy just think the sun shines out of his rear end. I even heard one person say nobody on the field was close to him tonight in terms of being MOM. For me he wasn't even top 3.

Great win great 3 points. But let's not get carried away and focus on another 3 points Saturday

Nobody is getting carried away baz, we beat a poor team, looked much better than them and as Col initially said, people are pleased.

With a crowd of 1984 (200 roughly away fans) it was a night for those who go good or bad, call them (us) what you like, die-hards, regulars, dedicated, mad, stupid, cold.

The posts on this thread reflect this. There is no talk of automatic promotion and no "we're doomed" either.

There are many missing posters tonight though, I guess the likes of JR are still out celebrating the victory.

It was good to see, particularly after the 2nd goal, how much confidence seemed to be ebbing back, playing with freedom, knowing that they had a vice like grip on the game, and they could relax and play like they can. Crewe could not handle us at times, just that bit too quick or clever for them.

Life is a game of fate.

he should be delighted his son wasn't sent off. He seemed to think Hendo's face had a target on it. He should have gone for the first one, and was very lucky to escape with just a talking to the second time he floored Hendo. He hit him in the face again in the second half which went unnoticed.

Crewe started off okay going forward but looked suspect defensively. I would agree with others that Davis was lucky to say on the pitch.

We played some excellent football in difficult conditions. The effect of the wind on a game of football should never be underestimated. We scored four and at could have been more. Two great finishes by Bunney and well taken penalties by Henderson. Yes Crewe were poor, especially when they started to launch it long to Haber in the second half, but I couldn't pick out a Dale player who didn't put in a shift last night. The ball from Allen for Bunney's second goal was exquisite.

With Dawson back in training this week we should be optimistic for Saturday. Interesting that we play Colchester, Yeovil and Leyton Orient all at home before the end of the season. Hopefully we should be able to get enough points before the end of the season to avoid relegation and maybe challenge for more.

The crowd was poor last night and there was no Champions' League game on terrestrial TV as an excuse. Interestingly I did receive two emails yesterday advertising the game and coach travel/ticket information regarding the Fleetwood game.

Not sure I agree totally with all the euphoria. Thought we were average at best first half with little or no cutting edge. Certainly better second half but against what! Poor poor team Crewe. Let's take the points and move on. Oh and Bunney isn't the answer although he did shut me up with two great finishes

Surely it's better than dropping points against a poor, poor Crewe side?

Fair assessment that from Davis.

Thought we were excellent... Much better intensity and tempo than Sheffield United.

I didn't go to Bristol City but hear we were as good there and very unlucky to get nowt!

My MOM Rose. He was up for it last night.

Hendo also magnifique!! Then Bennett.

Defence solid and all round we look up for the final third of the season. Bring it on. Saturday can't come quick enough for me now.

Up the Dale.

If you didn't see that Rose was by far away the best player on the pitch last night, you need to go and find another sport to watch. Clueless.

as obvious as it sounds getting the 1st goal is so crucial to the way we play, it means opposition open up more allowing the front players a little more time and space to play, and as seen last night can be quite clinical

Not too sure about that, he was very good at breaking things up and keep us ticking over. For me Vincenti and Hendos performances left the others standing, when Hendo plays with a spring in his step and confidence he really is different class.
Special mention for Vincenti as he doesnt half cop for some fouls and just gets on with it, not sure he lost a header all night, good solid display all round against woeful opposition it has to be said.

Completely disagree, feel he grew into the game when he began playing simple balls instead of his normal 45 yard drilled hollywood ball. It was onebof rose's best games in midfield, however i'm still not convinced, as i personally like my midfielders to retain possession, which is difficult when rose thinks the right ball to play 75% of the time is a hollywood ping. Also his set pieces wern't actually that good. A lot of them barely made it over first man, corners in particular.

Thought Rose was inspired in his defensive midfield play, as you say, breaking things up and then letting the more creative players get on with it instead of trying to compete with them.

If Dawson's fit for Saturday, can't see any further than Rose being the one to make way, leaving Bennett to drop a little further back.

Indeed and to an extent understandable Hill was whinging about it. Maybe instead of moaning in interviews he should be up in the directors lounge asking what they're doing about it?
