Football League Chief Executive Shaun Harvey has warned QPR they will take action if they have broken the Financial Fair Play rules.
Obviously as Shaun Harvey says, if this does happen, Tony will defend it. It does seem amazing though. Man Utd spend £60m on one player and spend £350k a week on another player's 'tax free' wages and we are in the firing line for getting done.
It is easy to have a go at Shaun Harvey, the guy is just doing his job, but his statement at the end that the league have to have integrity seems to be absolutely laughable. The Premiership is simply about the top 4 teams and their welfare, the rest don't have an even playing field. That is why the Championship for me is much better. This season is worth £120m to us allegedly. Our spend balance on new signings is +£16m and our salary cap has gone down. I think, I may be wrong, that we still have about £30m from the parachute payments we were paid, so although £50m would be a big dent we would be able to survive paying it.
Either that or next year's season tickets will be £25K a hit. About £800 a game. |

One of the reasons that Monaco have offloaded Falcao is to comply with FFP. The downsizing of Monaco means that the French League may well be a one-team league for years. Of course perhaps PSG don't care about their own league not meaning anything if their real aim is to be part of the European elite. It's weird because it's as if the European breakaway league is already here, with national leagues beginning to fade into the background, even though the big clubs are still in them. Financial Fair play was a genius idea by the likes of Chelsea, Man Utd, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich to protect them in the champions league and ensure they remain at the top of the game for generations to come.
When Man City came along and spent a fortune to go from 17th to champions the game changed. Paris St German as well and now Monaco all clubs with little to fear from suddenly spent a fortune and Europes big clubs sarted to panic. Al of a sudden in England the top 4 were now a top 6 and with champs league no longer guaranteed they made a move.
Quite why any club outside the top six voted for this remains a mystery as this basically ends any chance they ever had of competing at the top of domestic and european football.
Now clubs can only spend what they earn, Man City and Chelsea can never happen again and those tp clubs with the huge tv and champs league prize money can stick two fingers up to the rest of us and spent 10 times what everyone else can and ensure the status quo remains.
Man Utd have shown this summer what financial fair play is all about, as soon as the others can no longer spent they go out and out bid everyone with the most expensive squad in the land. All very fair apparently
In our case as Fernandes has said many of the big contracts we gave out were in place before financial fair play was put in place and put in place when a new tv deal had come in which they will argue would have covered the cost. It seems barmy to me that any chamionship club signed up for rules which mean the 3 teams coming down with their tv money can spend to get up whilst they are not allowed to. All seems like a lot of speculation when no one knows how much the fine is, no one knows who elseis going to fail (Leicester City) and no one knows if we are going to pay if we fail or not. Apart from that it's a brilliant story |
Can anyone tell me if other clubs were mentioned?
In the meantime, as daveb states the following is not known & can't be until the accounts are issued:-
1) Have we failed FFP?
2) If we have failed, how much is the loss & how much is the fine?
3) Where does the speculation come from that we would not pay any fine that is issued?
4) How many other clubs would have failed FFP & also have to pay fines or risk being excluded from The Football League? I would suggest that other candiates would be Leicester, Forest, Reading, Wigan, Blackburn, Bolton & with the possibility of Leeds, Middlesbrough, Ipswich, Watford & maybe Doncaster.
If we did refuse to pay any fine (either issued or imposed after legal judgement) then we would rightly face not being allowed to play in The Football League. That is provided that this was imposed on other clubs that have failed. | | | |
