Southampton Planning Triple Swoop On West Ham On Deadline Day

With the transfer window entering the last 15 hours, the rumours are flying in thick and fast and the latest one will make Saints supporters prick their ears up, with some sources saying it could be a trio of West Ham players heading South.

Yesterday it was reported that Southampton are deep in negotiations to bring Maxwell Cornet from the Hammers in a loan deal.

But now givemesport.com are claiming that it could be not one but three players joining Saints from the Hammers.

They say that in addition to Cornet, Southampton are still looking to bring James Ward Prowse back on a permanent deal and in addition to that also Danny Ings.

In regard to Ings, Saints tried earlier in the summer, but the issue was the deadlock between Ings and West Ham, Ings was not willing to lose wages in any potential move and West Ham were not willing to subsidise his wages.

Now it seems West Ham have relented and are willing to release Ings from his contract and also subsidise any shortfall on his wages at a new club, in effect pay him off.

Sources have also suggested that Ings would prefer to stay in London if he is to depart, although he is in no rush to leave.

This is slightly contradictory with the reports that Ings has seemingly moved into his house just North of Winchester and joined a golf club nearby.

So what are the chances of landing all three, firstly it would seem that although the only transfer fee outlay would be for Ward Prowse and that would be around £20-25 million, there would be a significant outlay on wages.

In terms of the players, there is also where they would fit in, Ings would be an asset up front and Cornet would bolster the wide options, but at the moment the centre of the midfield is a little congested and with the recent arrivals of Matteus Fernandes, Big Les Ogochukwu & Adam Lallana, and of course Flynn Downes on a permanent basis, not to mention Joe Aribo & Will Smallbone, that would be 7 players for 3 places if Ward Prowse rejoins

But personally I would be pleased to see him back.

Likewise Ings if we can get him, he would be worth a punt given that there would be no transfer fee involved.

In a dozen or so hours time, we will find out if this rumour has any legs.
