Southampton Linked With World Cup Winner
The rumours are flying thick and fast at the moment and the latest linking Saints is coming from Spain were it is claimed that the club could be in for a World Cup winning midfielder also linked with Barcelona.
The man Southampton are interested in signing is out-of-contract Argentinian midfielder Guido Rodriguez according to givemesport.com
Rodriguez has plied his trade in Spain with Real Betis for the last five years and was also a member of the Argentinian squad that won the 2022 World Cup on penalties.
He was out of contract at the Spanish club this summer and the general consensus in Spain was that he already had ‘a verbal agreement’ to join Barcelona in April, but here we are in mid July and the move has yet to happen leaving speculation rife that Barcelona have gone cold on the idea.
givemesport.com are quoting journalist Victor Morales who is claiming that Saints have emerged as one of three suitors for the 30-year-old, alongside Mexican side Tigres UANL and Turkish club Trabzonspor.
The 30 year old Rodriguez is a defensive midfield player who was a member of the Argentinian World Cup in Quatar in November/December 2022, he was an unused sub in the final against France, but did start in the group, game against Mexico.
