Olympique Lyonnais Takes Up Option On Duje Caleta-Car

Olympique Lyonnais have announced to the press in France that they have excercised their purchase option for Southampton defender Duje Caleta-Car, read on for the full details of the deal,

Duje Caleta-Car was not an outstanding success at St Mary's after signing from Marseille for around 8 million Euros in the final days of the 2022 summer transfer window, he would make just 13 appearances in the Premier League for Saints, scoring just the once, a goal to put Saints 3-1 up at Arsenal.

Now comes the news from actusnews.com that Olympique Lyonnais are now signing him on a 3 year contract for 3.59 million Euros, to which can be added 2.1 million in bonus's and a 15% sell of fee on any fee that Olympique Lyonnais receive over these figures should they transfer him in the future.

Add to that Saints are said to have received a loan fee of 1.54 million euros, if all goes well in France then Saints won't be too far out of pocket from their original outlay.

The transfer fee will help towards the budget, but more importantly Southampton will get a considerable chunk off the wage bill going forward with two years still left on his contract before this deal.

I wish Duje Caleta-Car well in his future, it didn't work out for him at St Mary's, but he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time when Southampton FC was in complete turmoil on the field, no one will mentio Caleta-Car as a Saints legend, but he was far from the worst player ever to play for the club.
